To our VALUED patients and any of their family/friends: A very important announcement!!
One distinct advantage to being an independent office is the ability to adapt QUICKLY in order to protect and serve the people who depend upon us for their health.
Recently, it was brought to my attention that a physician who attends to patients in three nursing homes was now being monitored for COVID-19. It really got me thinking…
Our office provides care to over 120 elderly patients at The Meadows of Kalida and The Meadows of Delphos. The impact of an exposure to these residents, whom I truly love so dearly, would have dire consequences. We also realize that our providers and staff are at risk of exposure every day that they are here.
Despite all of this, we NEED to be available to the people who count on us. This could not be more important as patients are finding their specialists offices closed and are calling us for help. Many offices are not seeing sick patients at all. What are people supposed to do?
Added to that, the Emergency Room is the LAST place anyone wants to be right now. You have a much higher likelihood of exposure to COVID-19 there.
We will be here for you.
Effective Tuesday (3/24) morning, Dr. Klir will be seeing all the patients at our building. Megan Strauer, C.N.P will be the only provider seeing residents at The Meadows of Kalida, and Melissa Langhals, C.N.P. will be managing all residents at the Meadows of Delphos.
Melissa and Megan will both remain readily available to their patients for Telemedicine or Virtual Visits via the internet, which we have enacted under the suggestion of the current Presidential Administration.
We will be seeing all “sick” patients in the CARPORT BEHIND OUR BUILDING (I doubt that, when Dr. Kidd designed it, he ever imagined it would be put to that use, but here we are). People who have scheduled appointments for acute illnesses will be given a time where they can just drive up and be seen without leaving their vehicle. We can evaluate and rule out the other illnesses that share similarities with COVID-19. If COVID-19 is suspected we can advise you where to go to get tested.
The carport option is also available for anyone who wants to have a urine checked, nursing visit, blood pressure check, B12 shot, allergy shots, some immunizations, and the like. However, we now have created seven exam rooms for one provider, so any time in the waiting room will be minimal and, hopefully, not at all.
Finally, without sick visits occurring in our building, our patients and staff can justly be reassured that they are SAFE.
I wish that the government would waive some of the requirements for time sensitive non-acute needs like DOT physicals, pain medicine refills for our elderly, and visit requirements for ADHD and other medicines considered “controlled”……but they have not. However, rest assured, with the above precautions, these people who are being forced to expose themselves in order to comply with federal regulations will not get this virus here.
We have this covered.
By these actions, our goal is and always has been, to protect our patients, our staff, our nursing home residents, and remain always available to our patients, many of who need us now more than ever.
I have the philosophy and belief that God guided me into medicine for a reason. For twenty years, he has continued to guide me and has blessed me in caring care for my beloved patients. I am seeking His protection daily, but, If I do get sick, another one of our providers will have remained far enough away from any exposure to come in and continue to see our patients.
So, we will be here for you.
Please contact the office first if you have respiratory or infectious symptoms. Our office staff will guide you as to whether you need attention elsewhere or we can treat you at the “drive through”. Please, also call ahead if you desire other non-acute medical needs in the carport.
Telemedicine visits with Megan and Melissa can be scheduled through the office, but will take place from the comfort of your own home. Please call the office to see if your medical need is appropriate for this service…examples might include diabetic checks, medication checks (not scheduled drugs), refills, rashes, or physical complaints not requiring an exam.
Finally, as stated in a prior post, the offer for delayed payments stands. Medical decisions should not have to be made dependent upon your finances. If we can find a way, we will work with ANYONE to offer assistance during this difficult time. I will all be OK……we’ll work it all out when our Nation is on the mend, which is, hopefully, soon.
We’ve got this,
Kalida Medical Arts
