Pirate Boys Soccer 3-1 Over Rangers:
On Saturday Continental’s Boys Soccer Cole Bowers had a foot in all three of the Pirates goal. The Pirates hit the back of the net at the 36:52 mark in the first quarter when a corner kick from Bowers to the opposite side of the goal was put in by Senior Konnor Okuley. That would be all the scoring for the Pirates in the first half. With just 1:22 left in the half the Rangers found the back of the net when they beat the Pirates defense in transition. Pirates 1, Rangers 1 half.
A couple of tries by the Pirates at the start of the second half were denied but at with 27:20 left in the game Bowers put in his first goal of the day when he took a pass from Senior Jarret Keck from outside the Penalty box and put in a strong attempt. Bowers day was not complete as he hit the back of the net a second time with 12:02 left when he scored on an Andrew Hoeffel pass. New Knoxville was held scoreless in the second half. Pirates 3, Rangers 1.
Continental had 9 shots on goal to the Rangers 8. Pirate goalie Trevor Brecht had 7 saves on the day. The Pirates had 3 corner kicks.
Continental is now 6-4-2 and will host Archbold on Tuesday in non league play. New Knoxville is 4-5-2.
Blue Streaks Over Pirates:
Archbold High Boys Soccer team came into the Tuesday match at Continental ranked 7th in the latest OSSCA Divison III State poll. The Blue streaks came out early against the Pirates to prove the pollsters correct. Archbold hit the back of the net 2:26 into the contest and added 4 more goals in the first half to take a 5-0 lead at half. The second half was played even as the Blue Streaks put in the first goal of the half and Pirate Konnor Okuley scored with 16:50 left. Westin Okuley had the assist for the Pirates. Blue Streak 6, Pirates 1.
Archbold had 15 shots on goal to the Pirates 2. Pirate Goalies Trevor Brecht had 5 saves and Cody Auch had 4 saves. Continental had 3 corner kicks to Archbold’s 2. Archbold took the Junior Varsity match 1-0.
Continental falls to 6-5-2 and will host Napoleon on Thursday in a non League game. Archbold improves to 13-1.
