The regular monthly meeting for the Continental School Board was held at 6:00 p.m. on August 18, 2014 in the administrative office. The meeting was called to order by President Dean Bidlack.
Hearing of the Public:
Mr. Brian Gerdeman, Elementary Principal, reported:
•We had 19 students complete the summer school program on August 15th.
•School pictures for preschool and grades K-3 will be held on Wednesday, September 3rd; Preschool and Grades 4-6 will be held on Thursday, September 4th
•Installation of projectors in the elementary was completed today. Most classrooms in the elementary now have interactive software that they can use with their students.
•New reading textbooks have been distributed to the classrooms and teachers have been working together to get their online materials up and running.
•Topics for discussion at today’s inservice included school safety, reading textbooks, OAA test scores, and Next Generation assessments.
•Parents of Pirates are sponsoring a Box Top for Education contest from September 15-19th. Classes that collect the most box tops will win prizes.
Mr. Tim Eding, JH/HS Dean of Students, reported:
•7th Grade Orientation was well attended.
•Class meetings and iPad distribution will take place Wednesday morning.
•Fall sports teams are up and running. Soccer teams started their seasons on Saturday; HS Volleyball starts tomorrow (Tuesday); and JH Volleyball starts next week.
•Participation numbers for fall sports:
Boys Soccer: 22
Girls Soccer: 17
HS Volleyball: 17
JH Volleyball: 13
•Approved advance of $9,584.50 from General Fund (001) to Cafeteria Fund (006).
•Entered into an agreement with Midwest Regional ESC for services of vision impaired students. Services are $4620. Mileage is $900.
•Entered into an agreement with Wood County Juvenile Detention Center and the Juvenile Residential Center of Northwest Ohio. Costs are $64.00 per student/per day.
•Accepted the following donations:
$3000 donation from Cooper Family Foundation to Continental School
$1000 from the Blue and Gold Club to the Athletic Fund toward payment of athletic trainer
•First reading and approval on the following policy revisions: Transportation, and Interscholastic Athletics
•Approved bus routes for the 2014-2015 school year and authorized Superintendent Mengerink to make necessary changes as they occur.

•Approved Austin Prowant as a volunteer assistant for high school boys soccer.
•Employed Tegan Huff as an aide and issued her a one-year limited contract at 3.25 hours per day, 184 days per year, effective August 20, 2014, pending proper certification and satisfactory FBI/BCI background checks.
•Accepted the resignation of Kelly Brown as girls high school track coach.
•Recalled Deb Warnimont’s aide hours. Effective August 20, 2014 she will be 4.0 hours per day, 184 days per year.
The meeting adjourned at 6:29 p.m. The next regular board meeting was changed to Thursday, September 18th at 7:00 p.m. in the administrative office.
