“It Happened Last Night:”
The regular monthly meeting for the Continental School Board was held at 7:30 p.m. on October 21, 2014 in the administrative office. President Dean Bidlack called the meeting to order.
Mr. Brian Gerdeman, Elementary Principal, reported:
•There will be no school on Monday, October 27th.
•Picture retakes are scheduled for Tuesday, October 28th.
•Red Ribbon Week will be celebrated October 27-31 with various drug and alcohol prevention themes throughout the week.
•Grade cards will go home on Friday, October 31st.
•Students in grades 1, 3, and 5 will be participating in the personal safety program on October 29th and 30th.
•The Veteran’s Day program will be held on Tuesday, November 11th at 10:00 a.m. in the high school auditorium.
•Grandparent’s Day will be held on Friday, November 21st in the elementary school.
Mr. Tim Eding, JH/HS Dean of Students, reported:
•The end of the first quarter is Friday, October 24th. Report cards should be released by Thursday or Friday of next week. Report cards are sent electronically via ProgressBook.
•The annual Sadie Hawkins dance is scheduled for Friday, October 24th from 8:00-11:00 p.m. in the auditorium.
•Quarter Break (no school) on Monday, October 27th.
•OGT retakes are scheduled for next week. We have 4 students (1 senior) retaking tests in this building plus 7 students (1 senior) retaking tests at Vantage.
•The Red Cross will be holding a blood drive at Continental School on Wednesday, October 29th. This project is coordinated by the NHS students.
•The Lions Club will be holding their annual Halloween festivities in the high school gym on Thursday, October 30th (in conjunction with Continental’s Trick-or Treat).
•8th graders will visit Vantage on the afternoon of November 4th.
•10th-12th graders will travel to the American Legion on November 5th for breakfast and the annual Americanism Test.
•Veteran’s Day Assembly is scheduled for November 11th at 10:00 a.m. in the auditorium.
•The fall play “No Sign of Intelligent Life” will be presented to the public on Friday and Saturday, November 14th and 15th. Showtime is 7:30 p.m. each evening.
•District soccer games are Wednesday, October 22 (girls vs. OG at Celina; boys vs. Fort Jennings at Kalida).
•First day of coaching under OHSAA guidelines for basketball is October 31st for girls and November 7th for boys.
•Fall Sports Awards are scheduled for November 6th at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium and the winter OHSAA meeting is scheduled for November 3rd at 7:00 p.m. in the high school cafeteria.
•Approved the Five-Year Forecast.
•Approved a $14,158.18 advance from the General Fund (001) to the Cafeteria Fund (006).
•Approved a $3,301.58 return of advance from the Recreation Fund (013) to the General Fund (001).
•Accepted the following donations:
$300.00 from the Pioneer Day Fund to the Band Fund
$151.00 from the Defiance County Ag Society to the Band Fund
$200.00 from the Sons of American Legion (Fall Festival) to the Band Fund
$150.00 from the Sons of American Legion (Fall Festival) to the Art Fund
$ 25.00 from the Class of 1954 to the Scholarship Fund in memory of classmate Ronald McKibben
Mr. Mengerink gave the transportation report and discussed a possible propane bus grant thru EPA.
•Heard the Vantage Career Center report from board member Ron Bradford.
•Accepted the following teacher retirement resignations and thanked them for their commitment and years of service to the students and administration at Continental School. They are wished the best in their future endeavors.

•Accepted the resignation of Kelli Roney as co-elementary student council advisor.
•Approve the following members for the 2014-2015 Local Professional Development Committee:
Tracy Potts, Sharon Siebeneck, Joel Mengerink, Pam Retcher, and Brian Gerdeman, Secretary.
Each committee member except the secretary shall be paid $25.00 per hour up to a maximum of 40 hours for work performed outside the regular workday. The secretary shall be paid $25.00 per hour up to a maximum of 50 hours for work performed outside the regular workday.
•Approved Chris Warnement as varsity girls track coach, pending satisfactory FBI/BCI background checks, if applicable, for the 2014-2015 school year:
