The regular meeting for the Continental School Board was held at 7:30 p.m. on October 16, 2018 in the administrative office. The meeting was called to order by the president Dean Bidlack. Treasurer Bev Sabo was absent from the meeting.
Mrs. Tracy Potts, Elementary Principal, reported:
•Students in grades K-3 learned about fire safety from our local fire department. The fire department brought the smoke house to the school this year.
•The students are currently collecting Box Tops. The winning class will get to silly string the principal.
•The kindergarten students enjoyed a second trip to Suter’s Farm, due to rainfall on their first outing.
•The Pirate Reading and Math Clubs will start this week.
•Gifted testing will take place on October 29-31 for grades 2 and 4.
•The first round of ELA testing for third grade students will be October 22-23. All students will take the tests on Chromebooks with the option of paper/pencil tests next year.
•K-2 and 6th grade teachers received their interactive boards.
•Career speakers for October include Mrs. Lindsey Spitnale, certified nurse practitioner; and Matt Slattman, athletic trainer. We are currently looking for a mechanic to speak to the students in November.

Mr. Tim Eding, JH/HS Principal, reported:
•Cookie dough and coffee items from the junior high fundraiser will be delivered on Thursday afternoon. Parents are requested to pick up their child’s items between 3:00-5:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 18th.
•Friday is the end of the first quarter.
•Friday is our Sadie Hawkins dance for grades 9-12.
•There will be NO SCHOOL on Friday, October 26th (Professional Development Day).
•NHS will be sponsoring a Blood Drive through the American Red Cross on Wednesday, October 24th.
•The Lions Club will be hosting their Halloween program on October 25th in the gym. This includes a performance by our high school band.
•Members of FCCLA will be attending a district meeting on Monday, October 29th.
•The juniors will be traveling to Defiance College on October 30th for a practice ACT session. After the test, students will receive score reports and materials to help them increase their ACT score before taking the actual test.
•We will be sending eight high school students to the Northwest Ohio Student Leadership Conference on the campus of Defiance College on November 1st.
•The Putnam County Police Chiefs Association will be bringing an Opioid Awareness assembly to CHS on November 2nd.
•The annual American Legion “Americanism Test” will be given on November 5th at the American Legion. Thank you in advance to the Legion for serving breakfast to our students that morning!
•Fall Sports Awards are scheduled for November 5th at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium.
•Eighth graders will be participating in a tour of Vantage in the afternoon of November 8th.
•Our annual Veterans Day assembly will be held on Friday, November 9th at 10:00 a.m. in the auditorium. All local veterans and community members are invited to attend.
•The fall play “Spark” will be presented on Friday and Saturday, November 9th and 10th at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium. There will also be a matinee performance on Sunday, November 11th at 2:30 p.m.
•Tabled approval of the five-year forecast.
•Approved a transfer from the General Fund to the Cafeteria Fund for $7,715.03.
•Approved a transfer of $20,000 from the General Fund to the Severance Fund.
•Approved the Certificate of Estimated Resources: Fund 003, Increase by $150,000.
•Accepted a $500 donation from the Charlie Gordan family to the boys basketball fund.
•Approved Community Reinvestment Area Tax Exemption applications for the Village of Continental for new home construction. The Housing Council is requesting approval of 50% 5-year tax abatements for Kenneth and Jennifer Searfoss, parcel 24-079210.0000; and Chad and Loretta Olds, parcel 24-074203.0000.
•Approved insurance premium rates for January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2019.
•Approved first readings of NEOLA policies.
•The transportation report was heard.
•The Board was informed of a school safety training grant that was received for school year 2018-2019.
•Ron Bradford gave the Vantage Career Center report.
•Entered into an agreement with Lincoln Learning for an online German language curriculum at a cost of $530. The Board:
•Approved eight hours of weekly after-school intervention for students in grades 1-6 at a rate of $25.00 per hour.
•Accepted the resignation of Ginger Williams, part-time cook, effective October 26, 2018.
•Accepted the retirement resignation of Anita Elkins, kindergarten/elementary library aide, effective August 1, 2019. We thank Mrs. Elkins for 27 years of dedicated service to the district.
•Approved the following members of the Local Professional Development Committee: Tracy Potts, Sharon Siebeneck, Danny Kissell, Pam Retcher, and Secretary Brian Gerdeman, at a rate of $25.00 per hour up to a maximum of 40 hours annually (secretary may be paid a maximum of 50 hours for work performed outside the regular workday).
•Accepted Brock Homier’s resignation as Varsity Boys Basketball Assistant Coach and issued him a supplemental contract for Junior High Boys Basketball Coach.
•Approved the following supplemental contracts, pending proper certification and satisfactory FBI/BCI background checks for school year 2018-2019:

Mark Wilson, JV Boys Basketball Coach
Perry Mason, Varsity Boys Basketball Assistant Coach
•Entered into executive session at 8:01 p.m. to discuss the employment of a public employee and exited at 9:08 p.m.
