Dale R. Schubert, 1948 – 2022

January 14, 2022 by Adam Donaldson

Dale Richard Schubert, age 73 of Defiance, went to Heaven on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at Mercy Hospital of Defiance.

He was born on July 8, 1948 in McComb, Ohio to Wilbur and Ruth Anna (Beemer) Schubert, who both preceded him in death. Dale proudly served our country in the 555th U. S. Air Force Band. On June 10, 1972 he married Sharon (Brown) Schubert, who survives.

Dale earned his Master’s Degree and spent the majority of his teaching career as an Instrumental Music Teacher for 30 years at Defiance City Schools and Napoleon City Schools. After retiring, he became an Educational Sales Representative for Rettig Music Inc. He inspired and encouraged all he knew. He was a friend and mentor to many area band directors and former students. Dale was the Conductor of the Black Swamp Community Orchestra. He founded Brass Works and played the Tuba in the Lima Area Concert Band. He was a faithful member of First Church of God in Defiance, OMEA Ohio Music Educator’s Association, and Gideon International.

Dale was a highly valued and integral member of the team at Macie Publishing Company and Ed Sueta Music Publications where he served as a nationally acclaimed clinician and trusted advisor. For over 30 years, Dale generously shared his vast knowledge with music educators at universities, workshops and conferences throughout the United States.

Dale adored his family and was a loving husband and father. He enjoyed the outdoors and creating his yearly garden. He will be remembered for his strong faith and kindness to all he met.

Dale is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Sharon Schubert of Defiance, his daughter, Laura (Jim) Dotson of Pikeville, NC, his sisters, Beverly (Richard) Williams of Waverly, OH and Debra (Gerry) Troyer of Cygnet, OH, and several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 16, 2022 from 2:00 to 8:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. Due to CDC guidelines, if you are not fully vaccinated a mask is required to enter the funeral home, and our lounge area will remain closed. A funeral service to celebrate Dale’s life will be held on Monday, January 17, 2022 at 1:00 pm at First Church of God, with Pastor Larry Kennedy officiating. Burial will follow the service at Riverside Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be directed to Gideon International. Online condolences can be given at www.Schafferfh.com.
