Ashton Donaldson, a fifth grader at Continental Local School, has an exciting weekend ahead! This past summer Ashton qualified for the 2023 Cross Country Coaches National Youth Championship race. He ran his first 5K at the 2022 Continental Fall Festival and surprised everyone when he finished 1st overall. Ashton got the bug for long distance running and this year competed in as many local races as he could fit in his schedule, adding a few more first place finishes to his record. For Halloween this year, Ashton dressed up as a “first place runner” with lots of his medals around his neck. His great-uncle, Mike Jones, sometimes provided the transportation to and from races and Ashton will have memories that will last for years with his uncle, “Mike the Great” – Russell’s funeral is a classic, just ask him!
This Saturday, Ashton will compete in this national race at the E.P. Tom Sawyer Park in Louisville KY. He will be running a 3K in the 11-12 year old age division. The weather in Louisville is supposed to be sunny on Saturday and we’ll see how this goes for him as it always seems to rain on race day for Ashton. We wish you good luck Ashton – do your best!!
Ashton is the son of Adam Donaldson of North Creek and Ashley Dressel of Toledo.
