If you have ever been to the Van Buren Pitch you know it is in a valley and on a hot muggy day there is no airflow on the field and it can get really hot. Following the 45 minute drive to Van Buren, the Continental High Girls soccer team came out ready to play. The Pirates got the first shot off in the game as the Black Knight goalie stopped Alex Hoeffel’s shot from the 20. After a pair of well executed corner kicks by the Knights that were stopped by the Pirate defense, Hoeffel had another attempt thwarted. The Knights hit the score board first as they put in a shot from 15 when they beat the Pirates defense in transition at the 19:11 mark. The Knights would convert a corner kick with 4:11 left in the half on a successful header. Knights 2.\, Pirates 0 at half.
Hoeffel would put the Pirates on the board early in the second half when her shot from left of goal wound its way around a group of Knight defenders and landed in the right corner of the goal. Knights 2, Pirates 1. With 16:41 the Knights moved the margin back to 2 when they put in a shot from the 18 off a crossing pass. With 1:00 to go the Knights would end the night’s scoring with another shot from the 18.
For the game Van Buren had 10 shots on goal to the Pirates 5.
Continental is now 5-2 and will travel to Northwood on Saturday. Van Buren improves to 4-1-1.
