A good sized crowd was on hand tonight to see the the Nickel Plate Road Steam Engine #765 pass through Continental. The eNews staff tries their best to get the news out and we apologize to those who missed tonight’s event. We received word on Tuesday that it would be coming through on Thursday morning. As one could imagine, there are many factors to consider for this type of rail run and schedules change. We heard this afternoon that it could be tonight – an evening run and posted it to Facebook. Late this evening (through Facebook), we learned it had left Fort Wayne and was on its way; it passed through Continental at 9:40pm. A beautiful site!
In today’s world of glitz and glitter, bigger, better and faster electronics and all that grabs our attention, it was refreshing to see that an old steam engine could draw a crowd in our community. Kids were kept up past their bedtimes and folks jumped in their cars to drive to town on a beautiful, clear night to wait on a train. Thank you to Victor & Michael Geckle for keeping us up to date on #765’s eastbound run.
