The organizational meeting for the Continental School Board was held at 7:30 p.m. on January 13, 2015 in the administrative office with the regular monthly meeting following. The meeting was called to order by the “president pro-tem”, Robin Etter.
Re-elected were Dean Bidlack, board president; and Chad Olds, vice president. Board meeting dates will continue to be held on the third Tuesday of each month with meetings beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the administrative office boardroom. Mr. Mengerink was appointed as purchasing agent and was authorized to employ temporary personnel. Chad Olds was appointed as Legislative Liaison to OSBA and Ron Bradford was appointed as Student Achievement Liaison. It was approved to dispense with the reading of the “minutes” of the previous meeting. 2015 Board committees were established.

Mr. Brian Gerdeman, elementary principal, reported:
•The end of the semester is Friday, January 16th. Grade cards will go home with students in K-6 on Friday, January 23rd.
•No school on Monday, January 19th.
•Academic Awards Night will be held on Tuesday, February 3rd at halftime of the varsity boys basketball game with Wayne Trace. Students with all A’s for the first semester will be honored.
•Kindergarten registration for the 2015-2016 school year will begin on Tuesday, January 20th. Students must be five years of age before September 30, 2015 to be eligible for Kindergarten.
•Students will be treated to a magic show presented by Krendl and Company on Wednesday, January 21st, at 2:00 p.m. in the elementary gym. He is a former student of one of our elementary teachers.
•Seven bullying incidents were reported in the elementary building for first semester, per reporting requirements of House Bill 276.
Mr. Tim Eding gave the junior high/high school dean of student’s report and athletic update:
•Semester exams are scheduled Thursday (periods 1-4) and Friday (periods 5-8).
•End of the second quarter and first semester is Friday, January 16th; grade cards will be released on Friday, January 23rd.
•There will be no school on Monday, January 19th, Martin Luther King Day.
•The Homecoming dance will be on Friday, February 6th and the Homecoming game is Saturday, February 7th vs. Columbus Grove.
•All A’s Recognition is scheduled for Tuesday, February 3rd, at the varsity boys basketball game vs. Wayne Trace (junior high/high school during the JV halftime; elementary during the varsity halftime).
•There have been no bullying incidents reported in the junior high/high school building for first semester, per reporting requirements of House Bill 276.
•Senior Nights: Girls Basketball Senior Night is scheduled for the Patrick Henry game on Saturday, February 14th; the boys basketball/cheerleading senior game vs. Patrick Henry is on Friday, February 27th.
•Tournament Draws: The girls basketball tournament draw will be held on Sunday, February 8th at Archbold High School (Paulding and Bryan are the Sectional sites); the boys basketball tournament draw will be held on Sunday, February 15th at Van Wert High School (Paulding and Bryan are the Sectional sites).
•Junior high tournaments: There will not be a 7th grade girls tournament this year due to a lack of schools participating. Our 7th graders will play with our 8th graders in their tournament. Starting dates/locations of junior high tournaments (all brackets will be posed to the athletic page of the website when they are available): JH Girls will play at Ft Jennings starting on February 21; 7th grade boys at Ottoville starting on February 28; 8th grade boys at Miller City starting on February 28.
•Approved the following donations:
$10.00 from Jim and Doris Ruen to the Continental Band in memory of JoAnne Prowant
$90.00 from the Prowant family to the Continental Band in memory of JoAnne Prowant
•Approved FY 2016 Alternative Tax Budget as required by the Putnam County Auditor.
•Approved the advance from the General Fund (001) to the Cafeteria Fund (006) for $5,859.30.
•Mr. Mengerink thanked the board members for their contributions as part of School Board Appreciation Month.
•Shared with the Board of Education thank you cards from Marilyn Bohrer and the Dupont Food Pantry.
•Announced that we will begin posting open positions within the next month in-house.
•Gave the transportation report:
-Stated that our number was not drawn to receive the EPA bus grant.
-Bus Garage: We will advertise for bids on Wednesday. Bids will be opened on February 3rd at 1:00 p.m.
•Heard the Vantage Career Center report from Ron Bradford.
•Approved the following supplementals for the 2014-2015 school year:

•Accepted the bus driving resignation of Diane Ordway, effective July 14, 2015.
The meeting adjourned at 8:06 p.m. The next regular board meeting will be held on February 17th at 5:30 p.m. in the administrative office.
