In the Pirates opening game of the 34th Annual Ayersville Holiday Tournament the Pirates played undefeated host Ayersville Pilots. The Monday late game had the Pilots jump out to a 14-7 lead after 1. The Pilots opened up a 9 point lead heading into half 27-16. The second half was all Pilots as the Pirates were held to 8 points while the Pilots scored 31. Pilots 58-24 winner.
McKenna Scott led the Pirates with 7 points while Emma Recker put in 6. Jade Zachrich added 4 while Alivia Homier contributed 3 while Alex Quigley and Amber Logan each put in 2.
Leipsic won the opening game of the Tournament 68-29 over Hilltop.
On Tuesday the Pirates took on the Lady Cadets from Hilltop in the early Consolation game. McKenna Scott opened the scoring with two free throw only to have the Cadets score the next 12. The Pirates scored the last 4 points of the quarter for a 12-6 Cadet lead after 1. The Pirates scored the first 7 points of the second quarter to take a 13-12 lead midway through 2. The Pirates finished the quarter with 8 more points to the Cadets 7 for a 21-19 Pirates lead at half. The third quarter was all Hilltop as Continental was held to 4 while the Cadets scored 15 for a 34-25 Cadet lead. An even fourth had the Pirates on the short end 44-35.
McKenna Scott led the Pirates with 11 while Amber Logan added 8. Alex Quigley put in 7, Jade Zachrich 4, Alivia Homier 3, and Kacie Quigley 2.
McKenna Scott was named Miss Hustle. The last Lady Pirates to win the Miss Hustle Award was Brooke Tegenkamp in 2006. Vicki Homier(1988) and Lori Miller (1981) are the only other Pirate Miss Hustle winners.
Leipsic won the Championship over Ayersville 45-34. The Putnam County League (Continental and Leipsic) have combined to win the last 9 Ayersville Holiday Tournaments. The Pirates have won 10 Holiday Tournaments while the host Pilots have won 12 and the Leipsic Vikings 9.
The Lady Pirates open up the new year by hosting the Miller City Wildcats on Friday January 9 at 6:30.
