Lady Pirates Have 3 Game Winning Streak, Defeat the Panthers

On Saturday Continental Girls Varsity was looking to pick up win #3 of the year and 3 wins in a row.  A strong first half put the Pirates in a good place but a Panther 3rd quarter rally made it even after 3 leaving the game in balance of who would win the game in the last quarter.  The Pirates outpointed the Panthers by 4 in the 4th for the 44-40 victory.  It was all Pirates in the first as they outscored the Panthers 9-2.  Olivia Crossgrove opened up the scoring with a pair of free throws.  The Panthers would tie the game on a basket 2-2.  The Pirates would score the final 7 points of the quarter with Bryn Tegenkamp making 3 free throws, Macie Cordes and Makenzie Shock both making a basket.  Pirates 9-2 after 1.    The second quarter the Panthers offensive would come alive and put in 13 while the Pirates got 14 for a 23-15 Pirates lead after 2.  Pirates got second quarter points from Crossgrove  making 4 baskets and a free, Olivia Logan a basket, Tegenkamp a pair of free throws and Cords a free throw.  Crossgrove finished the half with 11 points.

The Pirates would open up with a 10 point lead to start the 3rd quarter when Tegenkamp would hit a pair of free throws.  The Panthers would come flying back as they would put in the next 9 points on 3 baskets and a 3 to make it a 1 point game Pirates 25-24.  A basket by Tegenkamp put the Pirates back up by 3 27-24.  A pair of free throws would put the Panthers within 1, 27-26. A Cheyenne Rose free throw would make it a 2 point Pirates lead 28-26.  A Panther 3 would complete the comeback and the Panther had their first lead of the game 29-28.  A Tegenkamp free throw would even the game at 29 heading into the fourth quarter.

The fourth quarter would have the Panthers making the first baskets and taking their largest lead at 2.  Panthers 31-29.  A Pirate 7 point run would seemingly put them in control as Tegenkamp made a basket, Logan a free throw, Cordes a basket and Destiny Pier made a basket.  Pirates 36-31.  Baskets by the Panthers made it a 3 point game Pirates 36-33.  A Pirate basket by Crossgrove followed by a Panther 3, Pirates 38-36.  A Cordes basket put the Pirates back up by 4 40-36.  A basket by the Panthers was followed by another Cordes basket Pirate2 42-38.  A pair of made free throws by the Panthers would make it a 2 point Pirate lead 42-40.  The Pirates would finish off the game with Tegenkamp and Cordes both making a free throw.  Pirates 44-40 final.  Cordes would put in 7 of the Pirates 15 points in the fourth.

Pirates were led by Bryn Tegenkamp and Olivia Crossgrove with 13 points each.  The Pirates Macie Cordes also was in double digits with 10 points.  Oliva Logan had 3 points, Destiny Pier and Makenzie Shock both had 2 points while Cheyenne Rose had 1 point.  The Pirates did not make a 3 while the Panthers  made 3.  The Pirates were 14-19 from the line.

Continental improves to 3-16 and will look to make it 4 wins in a row against Wayne Trace on Tuesday.  Paulding falls to 2-16.  Olivia Crossgrove was chosen as the Signature Embroidery player of the game.  She had 13 points 18 rebounds and 3 blocks.
