On Tuesday night the Continental High Girls Basketball trip to Hicksville ended up with a victory but not without excitement at the end of the game. The Pirates opened the game’s scoring when Alex Hoeffel hit a free throw. The Aces would take their only lead of the night when they hit a basket to make it 2-0. The Pirates would then put in the next 10 points to open up an 11-2 lead. The 10 point run was fueled a pair of baskets from Addy Armey, a 3 by Madelyn Potts, a basket by Catelyn Etter, and a free throw by Hoeffel. The Aces would make it a 5 point lead when they put in a couple of baskets. A three by Armey would end the Pirates first quarter scoring while the Aces would put in a basket to make it Pirates 14, Aces 8 after 1.
The Aces opened up the second quarter with a free throw to make it a 5 point Pirate lead. The Pirates would double that lead with a 5 point run with Potts hitting a 4 and Katie Keller making a basket. Pirates 19, Aces 9. The Aces would put in a pair of free throws and a basket to cut the Pirate lead to 6 19-13. The two teams then traded points till the end of the half with each team scoring 4 points. The Pirates had Armey hit a 2 pointer and Hoeffel make a basket to make it 23-17 at half.
The Aces would open up the second half with a basket to make it a 4 point game Pirates 23-19. A pair of free throws from Kerri Prowant and a 3 by Potts would make it 28-19 Pirates. A pair of Aces basket would put the Pirates up by 5, 28-23. The quarters scoring would come to the end with Prowant making a pair of free throws and the Aces making a basket. Pirates 30, Aces 25 after 3.
The Aces would cut the Pirate lead to 3 when they would they hit a basket to make it Pirates 30, Aces 27. The Pirates would open up a 5 point lead when Etter would make a basket Pirates 32 Aces 27. A 3 by the Aces and a basket tied it up at 32. An exciting finish had the Pirate Hoeffel drive to the basket and getting fouled in the last minute of the game. Hoeffel made 1 free throw to make it Pirates 33- Aces 32. A misthrow by the Aces had the Pirates taking the ball out at half court when the pass went under the basket to Etter where she was fouled. Etter made both to make it 35-32 Pirates. An endline throw did not find an open Ace as the Pirates would end up a 35-32 winner.
Addy Armey and Madelyn Potts led the Pirates with 9 points each. Catelyn Etter added 6, Alex Hoeffel 5, Kerri Potts 4, Katie Keller 2. Potts hit three 3 pointers for the Pirates while the Aces made 1. Pirates were 11/21 for the form the line.
Continental improves to 2-1 and will travel to Columbus Grove on Tuesday for a Putnam County League game. Hicksville falls to 0-2. Hicksville won the Junior Varsity contest.
Addyson Armey was chosen the 105.7 player of the game.
