A great start by the Continental Girls Varsity Basketball team at Leipsic went for naught as the Vikings took control of the game in the second quarter. The Pirates opened up the day’s scoring with a 3 from Brynn Tegenkamp. The Vikings took their first lead of the day when they converted a 3 point play and make a basket. The Pirates would take a 7-5 lead when Jensen Armey and Marissa Becher would make baskets. That would be the end of the scoring for the Pirates for the quarter and the half. The Vikings would finish up the quarter on a 7 point run. Vikings 12-7 after 1. The Vikings would pile on 24 points in the second quarter to make it a 31 point run and a 36-7 halftime score.
The Pirates would stop the Vikings run with the first point of the second half when Becher would hit a free throw. Vikings 36-8. The teams would trade baskets with Tegenkamp hitting for the Pirates, 38-10 Vikings. A basket by the Vikings was followed by a 3 from Tegenkamp, Vikings 40-13. The teams would again exchange baskets with Becher making 2 for the Pirates Vikings 42-15. The Vikings would outscore the Pirates 5-2 in the waning minutes of the third with Armey hitting a basket for the Pirates. Vikings 50-17 after 3. A running clock had the Pirates outscore the Vikings 5-4. Pirate points were from a Olivia Logan basket and a Tegenkamp 3 point play. Vikings 54-22 final.
Brynn Tegenkamp led the Pirates with 11 points while Marissa Becher scored 5. Jensen Armey put in 2 while Olivia Logan had 2. Tegenkamp made a pair of 3s for the Pirates while the Vikings made 4.
Continental falls to 2-11 (0-4) and will travel to Antwerp on Tuesday for non league action. Leipsic improves to 10-4 (2-1 PCL).
