Falls among older adults have reached epidemic proportions and rates continue to rise. Statistics show that 1 in 3 Ohio adults, age 65 and better, fall each year. The Matter of Balance (MOB)—Fall Prevention class is an award-winning program designed to manage falls and increase activity levels. The MOB class is an 8-week program that is held once per week, for 2 hours each session for 8 consecutive weeks.
A Matter of Balance is for you if:
· You are concerned about falls.
· You want to improve your balance, strength and flexibility.
· You have fallen in the past.
· You don’t do things you used to enjoy because you fear falling.
Matter of Balance participants will learn to:
· View falls as something they can control.
· Set goals and increase their activity levels.
· Make changes to reduce fall risks at home.
· Exercise to increase strength and balance.
The Putnam County Council on Aging and the Putnam County Health Department will be starting a Matter of Balance class in Continental in early April. If you are interested in attending, please contact Pam Jones, Putnam County Council on Aging, at 419-523-4121.
