Thursday night Ohio Northern University Womens Soccer team won 0-0 to advance to the Ohio Alethic Conference finals. The Polar Bears will play at Otterbein in a battle of regular season undefeated champions for the tournament crown on Sunday. Both teams finished 8-0-1 in the regular season.
The semifinal at ONU on Thursday featured #3 seeded Capitol trying to avenge a 1-0 overtime loss to the Polar Bears less than 2 weeks ago. The two teams played regulation and 2 overtimes (110 minutes) to a 0-0 tie. Capitol had the advantage in shots 15-12 and corner kicks 6-1. Continental Grad Alex Hoeffel had two of the shots for the Polar Bears. The game then went into an epic shootout. The Polar Bears shot first in each round and had a 4-3 advantage at shot 5 but missed and the Crusader’s put one in to extend the game. At shot 8 the Polar Bears hit the cross bar but the Crusaders also missed to make it 6 all. By shot 11 both teams were repeating shooters and the Polar Bears missed only to be followed by a Crusader miss. The Polar Bears ended the game when they put in their 12th shot and Crusaders could not covert. ONU won the shoot out 9-8.
Ohio Northern has not given up a goal this season and will play travel to Otterbein which is the most prolific scoring this year in the OAC with 38 goals. Good luck to Alex and the Polar Bears in their final game of the season. NCAA Division III is not having a soccer tournament this year.
ONU WOMENS SOCCER GET 2ND SEED IN OAC TOURNAMENT
Ohio Northern Womens Soccer team got the second seed the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament. ONU tied Otterbein for the league regular season championship with both team having a 8-0-1 record. ONU has not given up a goal this season which included a tour of the conference teams. ONU will host the highest remaining seed after the first round. First round games are on Tuesday while the second round which ONU will host is on Thursday. The championship will be at the higher remaining seed site.
