Continental – Paul E. Fickel, 91, of Continental, died 2:00 a.m. Monday, April 27, 2015 at The Meadows of Kalida. He was born November 18, 1923 in Continental to the late Arthur and Lois (Troyer) Fickel.
Paul is survived by a brother: Roscoe (Louise) Fickel of Vaughnsville; 6 sisters: Bernadean Roney of Vaughnsville, Patricia Centers of Arizona, Marilyn (Frank) Gudakunst, Dianna (Garry) Neff, Yvonne (Jim) Yeager and Susan Hitchcock all of Defiance and many nieces and nephews. He is also preceded in death by 5 brothers: Robert, Darrell, Kenneth, Rolland and William Fickel
Paul was a carpenter and millwright. He was a US Navy veteran, Yeoman 2nd class, serving in WWII aboard the USS Ward 7th Fleet and USS Sakatonehee. Paul was a member of the Continental American Legion, Lima VFW, and Columbus Grove Eagles. He received the Victory Medal, American Area Campaign Medal and Asiatic Pacific Area Medal (4 stars).
A funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Continental with Pastor Larry Bibler officiating. Burial will follow in Monroe Cemetery, Continental with military rites by the Continental American Legion. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the charity of the donor’s choice.
