The last game of the year for the Continental High Boys Basketball did not go the Pirate way as Lima Perry opened up an early lead and continued to build on it. The Commodores came out and put in the first 9 points of the night. Taron Bulter put the Pirates on the board with a basket. A free throw by Perry was followed by a basket by Reed Warnement making it 10-4 Commodores. A basket by Perry was equaled by a basket by Pirates Gavin Huff, Perry 12-6. A 7 point Commodore run was stopped when Mitchell Coleman hit a 3 and that was followed by a free throw from Jaden Warner to make it 19-10 Commodores. A 3 by the Commodores finished the quarters scoring. Perry 22, Continental 10 after 1.
Pirate Bryce Recker opened up the second half scoring with a basket to make it a 10 point game. Commodores 22 Pirates 12. The next 10 points were put in by the Commodores. Their run was stopped when Bulter put in a basket to make it 32-14 Commodores. A basket by the Commodores was followed by a Huff 3. Commodores 34, Pirates 17. Perry would put in the last 6 points of the half. Perry 40, Continental 17 at half.
The Commodores would put in the first 6 points of the second half. Coleman stopped the Perry run with a 3 to make it Perry 46, Continental 20. Four more Commodore points were scored before Andrew Hoeffel would hit a 3 to make it Commodores 50, Pirates 23. Four Commodore points were put on the board before Huff would hit a pair of free throws. Perry would score the last 4 points of the quarter. Commodores 58, Pirates 25 after 3.
The fourth quarter would have the Commodores expand their lead as they outscored the Pirates 20-11. Perry 78, Continental 36 final.
Mitchell Coleman led the Pirates with 8 points while Gavin Huff put in 7. Andrew Hoeffel had 6 points, Reed Warnement and Taron Butler 4, Bryce Recker, Noah Becher, and Zach Moran 2 each, Jaden Warner 1. Coleman and Hoeffel both hit for 2 threes while Huff had 1.
Continental falls to 0-9 and will host Patrick Henry on Thursday in non league action. Perry improves to 7-3. Perry won the Junior Varsity game.
In 1971 these two teams combined to set a number of still standing Putnam County records. Most points in a game team – Continental 130. Most Points in a game total 221. Most individual points 51 – Continental Mike Schmidt. Most field goals by one team – 55 Continental, (second place is Continental 51 in 1921 against Belmore).
