Last week Pandora Gilboa took the Continental regular season game 44-33 but the second time around it was the Pirates who took the game and move onto Friday night’s Van Wert Sectional Final against Ottoville. The Pirates took control of the scoring at the start in a game they would not trail in and then in the end have a pair of players put up careers bests to secure the win.
Continental opened up the game by scoring the first points and taking the first quarter 16-10. A tight second quarter had the Pirates ending up adding one more point to their lead 26-19. At half Pirate Mitchell Coleman and Trevor Brecht both had 7 points. The Pirates would open up the second half by scoring the first 6 points to extend their lead to 32-19. The Pirates would finish out the quarter with a 45-31 lead. The Rockets would make it a game at the start of the fourth quarter when they would score 11 of the first 14 points to make it 48-42 Pirates. During that run Coleman would put in a 3 for the Pirates. After the Rocket run Coleman would hit a pair of 3 and a basket to put the Pirates back in control 57-42. In the end it was the Pirates who would move on with a 65-56 win.
Mitchell Coleman and Trevor Brecht both put in a career high points. Coleman finished the game with 34 (27 in the second half) while Brecht put in 9. Reed Warnement had 8 points, Gannon Prowant 4, Bryce Recker 4, Rhenn Armey 3, Gavin Huff 3. Coleman made five 3-pointers while Armey put in 1. The Rockets matched the Pirates six made 3-pointers.
