After a tied first half it was host Pandora Gilboa who took control of the Putnam County League Boys game against Continental. The Pirates got on board first as Freshman Rhenn Armey hit a 3 pointer. A basket by the Rockets was followed by a Junior Mitchell Coleman basket 5-2 Pirates. Another basket by the Rockets was better by Armey when he hit another 3. The Rockets would go on a 5 point run to take their first lead of the night at 9-8 thanks to a basket and a 3. The Pirates Coleman would finish out the quarter scoring by making a basket and 3 free throws. Pirates 13, Rockets 9 after 1.
It would be the Rockets who would open up the scoring in the second quarter to regain the lead. A 7 point run (a 3, a basket, and a pair of free throws) would put the Rockets up by 3, 16-13. A 6 point run by the Pirates, Coleman basket and a pair of made free throws and a pair of free throws by Senior Noah Becher, would put the Pirates up 19-16. The Rockets would end up scoring 5 of the last 7 points of the half (Junior Reed Warnement hit a basket) to make it 21 all at half.
The second half would start with the Rockets making a basket to gain the lead 23-21. A 3 by Armey would put the Pirates back in the lead 24-23. A Rocket 6 point on a pair of 3 point play would put them up for good 29-24. A 3 point play by Warnement would get the Pirates within 2 but the Rockets would finish the quarter off with a basket to have a 31-27 lead after 3.
A basket by Coleman would bring the Pirates to within 2 at the start of the fourth, 31-29. The Rockets would expand their lead to 7 with a basket and a 3 point play 36-27. A pair of Warnement free throws would pull the Pirates to within 5 36-31. The two teams would trade baskets with Pirate Senior Trevor Brecht hitting one for the Pirates. 38-33. The Rockets would then go 6-6 from the line for the 44-33 win.
Mitchell Coleman led the Pirates with 13 points. Rhenn Armey put in 9, Reed Warnement 7, Noah Becher and Trevor Brecht 2 each. Armey put in three 3-pointers for the Pirates while the Rockets made 2. The Rockets were 14-16 from the line while the Pirates were 10-15.
Continental finishes the regular season at 4-18 (1-6 PCL). Pandora Gilboa improves to 9-11 (2-5 PCL). The two teams will meet again on Tuesday, February 25 for a Elida District DIV Sectional Semifinal at Van Wert at 7:00. Pandora Gilboa is the 8th seed and Continental 10th seed.
