The regular monthly meeting for the Continental School Board was held at 7:00pm in the administrative office. President Dean Bidlack called the meeting to order.
Mrs. Tracy Potts, Elementary Principal, reported:
•The elementary talent show is on Thursday, May 19th at 1:30 p.m.
•Field Day/Relay for Life is on Tuesday, May 24th.
•The book sale was a big success this year. We collected over $300.00 for Relay for Life.
•As an AR reward, students in grades 3-6 will be going to the Columbus Grove skating rink on Friday, May 20th from 12:00-2:00 p.m.
•Class lists are finished for the 2016-2017 school year. Students will meet their new teachers on Monday, May 23.
•During Right to Read Week each student was given a new book donated by the Parents of Pirates (P.O.P.). I would like to take this opportunity to thank the POP group for their continued support in providing programs and activities and for volunteering their time.
•The elementary staff would like to thank Andy Bibler for sharing his racing experience and race car with the students.
•At this time there are 41 students enrolled in kindergarten for the upcoming school year.
Mr. Tim Eding, JH/HS Dean of Students, reported:
•High School students participated in a “Community Cleanup” day on Friday. Students did various tasks around town and at the school such as painting, general cleaning, and yard work.
•The high school academic awards were presented last Wednesday. All together, the graduates from the Class of 2016 earned approximately $275,000 in college scholarships, grants, and financial aid.
•Vantage will be presenting their Senior Awards on Monday, May 23rd at 9:30 a.m. at the Niswonger Performing Arts Center in Van Wert.
•JH/HS second semester exams will be on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week.
•The last day for students is Wednesday, May 25th; Teacher Workday is Thursday, May 26th.
•Graduation practice is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. on Friday, May 27th. (Seniors must attend practice in order to participate in the ceremony.) The graduation ceremony will be held on Sunday, May 29th at 2:30 in the gymnasium.
Athletic Update:
•The softball team has advanced to Districts. They will play Lincolnview at Elida tomorrow, beginning at 5:00 p.m.
•District track begins on Thursday at Ayersville. District track finals are Saturday. Anyone advancing to Regionals will participate next Wednesday and Friday at Tiffin.
•The Spring Sports Awards will be presented on Monday, May 23rd at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium.
•I met with most of the coaching staff today to confirm summer plans. Schedules should be coming out to students in the very near future.
•We do not have a provider for the 2016-2017 sport physicals. Students/families will need to be responsible for going to their own doctor and bringing paperwork back to the school/coach before participating in organized events.
Treasurer’s Report:

•Five-year forecast.
•Return of advance from the Cafeteria Fund (006) to the General Fund (001) for $191.45.
•Transfer of $81,000 from the General Fund (001-0000) to the General Fund and Maintenance Reserve Setaside Fund (001-9300).
•Approved the following donations:

•Agreement with Northwest Ohio Area Computer Service Cooperative for computer services for FY17.
•Five-year contract, July 1, 2016 thru June 30, 2021, with Northwest Ohio Area Computer Services Cooperative to provide internet connectivity per the guidelines set by the Ohio Department of Education, which insures a secure, reliable connection to the internet for an annual charge of $16,200.
•One-year contract with P.T. Services for physical therapy services at $61.00 per hour. The term of agreement shall commence on August 1, 2016.
•One-year contract with P.T. Services for $7,500 to provide athletic training services for the 2016-2017 school year.
•Purchase of 50 ipads and cases at a cost of $30,397.50 from Apple, Inc.
Superintendent’s Report:
Mr. Mengerink gave the transportation report.
•Discussed the need for an additional intervention specialist teacher due to higher numbers at the elementary.
•Informed the board about two grants that have been applied for as part of a consortium with the Putnam County ESC and BGSU.
•Continued discussion took place on a new sign/announcement board in front of the high school. Options were presented to the board and it was decided to proceed with the project. Money for the signboard will come from the Coke Fund.
