Continental Local School Jr/Sr High Cell Phone Policy for 2026 – 2027 school year:
August 10, 2026
Please read the following information regarding the cell phone policy that will be in effect at
Continental Schools this school year.
In accordance with Ohio law (ORC 3313.753) and Board Policy 5136, Continental Jr./Sr. High
School students are not permitted to have cell phones in their possession at any time during the
instructional day. The instructional day is defined as the beginning of 1st period through the end
of 8th period, including lunch and Academic Assist periods.
Students with written documentation from a physician requiring the use of a cell phone to
monitor a medical condition will be permitted to use their device for that purpose.
Cell phones must be powered off and stored in a student’s locker, vehicle, or left at home.
Students may use their phones while riding district transportation to and from school or
school-sponsored activities. Cell phone use may also be permitted on certain field trips at the
discretion of school staff.
If you need to reach your student during the school day or have an urgent message for them,
please call the school office. We will get your message to your student as quickly as possible.
Students who fail to store their cell phone in an approved location are subject to the following
disciplinary consequences. Refusal to surrender a device to a staff member upon request will
result in additional disciplinary action.
1st Offense
● A teacher or staff member will confiscate the device and deliver it to the office as soon
as possible.
● The student may retrieve the device from the office at the end of the school day.
2nd Offense
● The device must be picked up by the student’s parent or guardian.
● The student will be assigned an after-school detention.
3rd Offense
● The device must be picked up by the student’s parent or guardian.
● The student will be assigned In-School Restriction (ISR).
● The student will not be permitted to bring a cell phone into the school building during the
instructional day for the remainder of the school year.
4th and Subsequent Offenses
● Additional days of In-School Restriction (ISR) and/or the possibility of an out-of-school
suspension due to chronic misbehavior.
We understand that this policy may not be popular with everyone, however, our goal is to create
a learning environment where all students are engaged, focused, and safe each day. Cell
phones in school can contribute to classroom disruptions, distractions, and social conflict.
Thank you for your support as we work together to provide the best possible learning
environment for our students. If you have any questions about this policy, please do not hesitate
to contact me.
Thank you,
Mr. Streicher
