The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office and Putnam County Police Chiefs Association have partnered with Ottawa Walmart and the Putnam County Educational Service Center and are excited to announce the 1st countywide “Shop with a Cop” event in Putnam County.
Putnam County Shop With A Cop day will be held on December 10, 2016. Children need to be at the Sheriff’s Office by 9am, they will then be paired with officers and escorted to Wal-Mart in officers cruisers. Each child will be given money to spend on gifts for their family members and encouraged to buy at least one needed item for themselves. Once shopping is complete, children will be taken to the Educational Service Center (ESC) assembly room for lunch, gift wrapping, crafts, and a visit from Santa.
Eligible children are from the ages of 5 -12 and residents of Putnam County. Children will be selected from nominations that have been sent to all Putnam County Schools, Churches and Putnam County Job and Family Services. However, if you would like to nominate a child, nominations forms are available by emailing Staci Schroeder at schroeders@sherifoff.com at the Sheriff’s Office.
This program is made possible from the funds raised from the Sheriff’s Office “Running with the Law” Triathlon that was held on October 1, 2016 along with contributions from the Chiefs Association and Wal-Mart. The purpose of the program is to model core values such as caring, giving, and fellowship; along with creating positive experiences that the children and officers will remember long after the Holidays pass.
