The 2019 Continental High Volleyball season ended with a sectional semifinal loss to #8 seed Wayne Trace in the OHSAA Division IV Kalida District. The Pirates ended their season at 7-17. To say the Kalida District was tough, one just needed to look at the number of state ranked teams in the field. The District Champions St Henry ended the season ranked #1 in the coaches poll, Fort Recovery was #6, Lincolnview #15 and Crestview #16. St Henry advanced out of the Kalida district by dispatching Wayne Trace, Crestview and Fort Recovery.
The Districts funneling into the Elida Regional were plush with ranked teams as number 1,2,3,6,8,10,11,15,16,17,19,20 were part of the Regional field. Kalida District winner St Henry (#1) advanced to take on defending State Runnerup New Bremen (#2) in one half of the Regionals. New Bremen advanced out of the Bluffton District where they took out #10 Marion Local in the District Finals and #19 Minster in the District Semis. #8 New Knoxville was also in the Bluffton field. New Bremen defeated St. Henry 3-0 in the Regional Semifinal.
The other Regional Semifinal had #3 Tiffin Calvert (defending State Champ) taking on Miller City. Calvert advanced out of the Fostoria District where they took out #17 New Riegel in the District finals. #20 Arcadia was also in the Fostoria field. Miller City avenged a loss to Putnam County League Champion #11 Leipsic in the Napoleon District finals. Tiffin Calvert took out Miller City 3-0 in the Regional Semifinal.
Tiffin Calvert is still in the running as they defeated New Bremen in the Regional finals. Tiffin Calvert will take on #4 Monoreville (also from the Northwest District) in a State Semifinal on Friday at Wright State University. Newark Catholic will take on #5 Fort Loramie in the other State Semifinal. Finals are held on Saturday.
