Friday night a Putnam County League Boys Soccer battle saw the game swing in a 2.5 minute span as the visiting Ottoville Big Green took control of the game by scoring 2 goals in that timespan. Ottoville went into the game ranked 4th in the latest OSSCA DIII poll, were undefeated, and were playing their first PCL game. The Pirates brought in a record just above 500 and were fighting to stay in the PCL championship race. It was a game that saw Continental control action and it was the Big Green who took advantage of their opportunities. With 11:20 left in the first half the Big Green scored when they took a pass to the center and got off a shot that went around the Pirate goalie. Big Green 1-0. Just 2.5 minutes later the Big Green would make it 2-0 when they took the ball down the west side of the field and passed to a streaking forward on the East side to one touch it into the Pirate goal. Big Green 2-0. No more scoring in the half.
The second half had the Pirates get on the board just over 5 minutes into the half when they took a shot close to the goal that bounded free and Collin Davis kicked in the rebound to make it a 1 goal game. Big Green 2-1. The rest of the second half was about Pirate opportunities that were close but did not hit the back of the net. Twice the Big Green were called for penalties that were just out of the penalty box, so literally a yard from a penalty kick but the Pirates could not convert the free kick. At one point the Pirates hit the goal post, they were that close to tying but the Big Green held on for the 2-1 final.
Collin Davis scored the Pirates goal. Goalie Jayden Pitney had 4 saves. Continental had 11 shots on goal and took 8 corner kicks. Ottoville had 6 shots on goal and 2 corner kicks.
Continental falls to 4-4-1 (1-2 PCL) and will travel to Lincolnview on Tuesday. Ottoville moves to 9-0 (1-0 PCL).
