OHSAA announced two changes for the 2022-23 basketball season, one that a routine goer will notice and the other is an end of the year thing. The first thing to notice on the court is that the foul shooting awarding has changed. In past seasons teams were awarded 1+1 shots for fouls 7 to 9 of the half and 2 shots after 10 fouls. This season the 1+1 is gone. Teams will be awarded 2 shots after the first 5 fouls of a quarter and that the foul counter will reset after each quarter.
The second major change follows up with last year’s trial in the Northwest District of using RPI to decide District seeding. Last year the NorthWest District piloted RPI seeding in District using the Martin RPI ratings. For the 2023 tournament the entire state will be using MaxPreps RPI ratings for seeding. Teams will still place themselves in the bracket based on seeding.
