
Long Live King Carson Etter and Queen Delaney Bowers!!. Saturday night was homecoming for Continental and Seniors Etter and Bowers were named King and Queen and then the Pirates went to task to defeat North Central. It was fitting that King Carson opened up the games’ scoring by making a basket and Brady Thomsen followed it up with a made free throw. Pirates 3-0. A 3 by the Eagles tied the game and it was matched by a 3 from Monty Rayle. Pirates 6-3. A 3 by the Eagles tied the game at 6. A pair of 3s by Mason Rayle was sandwiched between a basket by the Eagles. Pirates 12-8 with 15 of the points coming from 3 point land. A basket and free throw by the Eagles made it a 1 point game 12-11. A basket by the Pirates was followed by an Eagle 3. Eagles take their first and only lead of the night 14-13. The Pirates got a 3 from Jonathon Etter and a basket by Carson Etter to take a 18-14 lead. The Eagles would close out the half with a basket and a free throw. Pirates 18-17 at half.
The third quarter was where the game was decided and Pirate defense decided it by holding the Eagles scoreless the first 7 minutes of the quarter meanwhile the Pirates put in 7 points. A pair of Monty Rayle baskets and a 3 from Jonathon Etter. The Eagles were held to a basket in the third. Pirates 25-19. The Pirates opened the fourth scoring with a Monty Rayle free throw to increase the lead to 7 26-19. A basket by the Eagles made it a 5 point game 26-21. A 3 by Monty Rayle put the Pirates up 28-21. Then Pirate foul shooting finished up the game as the Eagles would put in 8 more points but the Pirates went 7-8 from the line to salt away the victory. Monty Rayle and Carson Etter were both 2-2 and Jonathon Etter 3-4 from the line. Pirates 36-29.
Monty Rayle led the Pirates with 14 points. Jonathon Etter put in 9 points, Mason Rayle and Carson Etter 6 points each while Brady Thomsen had 1 point. The Pirates made six 3 pointers with Mason Rayle, Monty Rayle and Jonathon Etter each making 2. The Eagles made four 3 pointers. The Pirates were 10-15 from the line, 8-10 in the fourth quarter. The Eagles were 3-9 from the line.
Continental improves to 2-13 and will travel to Columbus Grove on Saturday for a 5:00 jv start of the Putnam County League game. North Central falls to 6-9.
Somethings that don’t appear on the scoresheet although Peyton Wilson did not not score in limited playing time, he unofficially had 4 rebounds, a steal, and forced a key Eagle turnover.
