Sharon K. Bruce, 71, passed away peacefully December 18, 2014 surrounded by her husband and several loved ones. Sharon was born February 19, 1943 in Macomb, OH to James and Marvel (Heffley) Kirkendall. She married Larry H. Bruce on August 16, 1964 in Kieferville, OH and he survives.
Sharon graduated from Continental High School in 1961. She earned her teaching degree from Bluffton College in 1964 and her masters in education from St. Francis in 1971. She was a long time educator in the Evergreen Local School District.
Sharon wore many colorful hats in her life: daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and volunteer. She was an avid fan of her husband’s ball teams and his golf companion. She enjoyed taking vacations which often included her children and grandchildren. Sharon belonged to the First Congregational Church of Christ as the moderator. She was actively involved in volunteering at the Stair Public Library for the young children’s reading program. Gardening Club, Red Hats Society and Book Discussion Club were organizations in which she was also actively engaged. One of Sharon’s greatest pleasures was her part time hobby of teaching piano to young people.
Surviving Sharon, in addition to her parents and her husband of 50 years, Larry are their daughter, Kirsten (Jon) Mignin of Delta, OH; son, Kirk of Berkley, MI; a sister, Diane (Ray) Spaeth of Arlington, OH; four grandchildren, Blake Raab (Sarah), Brianna Raab, Cayden Mignin and Kalleigh Mignin and a great granddaughter, Blaire Ann Raab. Also surviving are a niece, Alicia (John) Molina, Delaware, OH and C.J. Spaeth, Findlay, OH. She was preceded in death by her father-in-law, and mother-in-law, Frank and Lillian Bowser.
The family of Sharon will receive friends for visitation on December 22, 2014 from 2 – 8 pm at the Morenci Congregational Church. On December 23, 2014 at 2:00 pm a Celebration of Life Service will be held in the Congregational Church. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Morenci.
Memorial contributions in Sharon’s name may be made to Morenci Area Schools or Evergreen Local Schools for scholarship purposes in furthering young people’s education.
