
On Friday night Fairview opened the non league boys basketball game against Continental by putting in the first 6 points. The Pirates would manage to make it a one possession game in the second quarter but never get closer. After 3 fields by the Apaches opened up the scoring, Reed Warnement put in a basket for the Pirates. A pair of Apaches threes was followed by a Bryce Recker free throw and a Micthell Coleman basket. Apaches 12, Pirates 5. The quarter scoring ended with the Apaches making a free throw and Taron Bulter a field goal. Apaches 13, Pirates 7 after one.
The Pirates opened up the second quarter scoring with a Warnement field goal, Apaches 13, Pirates 9. An Apache 3 was followed by a Coleman 2 to make it a 5 point Fairview advantage. The Apaches extended their lead to 8 by making a basket and free throw 19-11. A 5 point run by the Pirates, fueled by a Coleman 3 and Gavin Huff 2, made it a one possession game Apaches 19, Pirates 16. The Apaches would score 10 of the next 13 points to open up a 10 point lead 29-19. Andrew Hoeffel made a pair of free throws for the Pirates and Recker made one. The Apaches wound up scoring 11 of the final 17 points of the half. The Pirates 6 would come from a pair of free throws from Huff and a pair of baskets from Coleman. Apaches 40, Pirates 25 at half.
Huff opened up the scoring in the second half with a basket, Apaches 40, Pirates 27. An 11 point run by the Apaches was stopped when Huff made another basket, Apaches 51, Pirates 29. The Pirates would only put in one more point, a Recker free throw in the quarter. Apaches 5,5 Pirates 30 after three.
The fourth quarter saw the Pirates outpoint the Apaches 20 to 9 with Huff getting 14 points, Coleman 5, and Wyatt Davis 1. Apaches 64, Pirates 50.
Gavin Huff lead the Pirates with a 22 point performance, Mitchell Coleman had 12 points. Reed Warnement had 8 points, Bryce Recker 3, Taron Butler and Andrew Hoeffel 2 each, and Wyatt Davis 1. Huff made 2 three-pointers for the Pirates while Coleman made 1.
Continental falls to 0-5 and will head to Antwerp on Saturday for a non league game. Fairview got a late start to the basketball season due to their football playoff success and are now 1-1. Continental won the Junior Varsity game 27-24.
