Apaches Over Lady Pirates, 38 – 29

On Tuesday Continental High hosted their 5th Varsity Girls home game of the year (with the home game at Hicksville cancelled).  The season opening homestand did not go the Pirates way as Fairview used a strong first half to take home the victory.  The Apaches opened up the game with a 3 and 2 baskets to score the first 7 points of the game.  The Pirates rallied back with a Catelyn Etter basket and a Maddie Burke free throw to make it 7-3 Apaches.  The Apaches would end up scoring the last 14 points of the quarter to take a 21-3 lead after 1.  Burke would open up the second quarter scoring with a basket only to have the Apaches score the next 11 points.  Apaches 32,, Pirates 4.  The Pirates would outscore the Apaches in the final minutes of the second 5-4 when Etter would make a pair of free throws and Burke a free throw and basket.  Apaches 36, Pirates 9 at half.

The Pirates opened the second half with a 3 from Bryn Tegenkamp to make it 36 -12.  The Apaches matched that 3 but the Pirates followed it up with a Burke basket to make it 39-14 Apaches.  A 6 point Apache run was stopped when Burke made a basket, 45-16 Apaches.  A pair of Apache baskets sandwiched a Tegenkamp basket Apaches 49-18.  The Pirates would get a 3 from Etter and a basket from Tygre Troyer to make it 23-50.  An Apache free throw would end the 3rd quarter scoring with each team scoring 14.  Apaches 50, Pirates 23 after 3.  The fourth quarter would be all Apaches as they would put in 18 point to the Pirates getting 2 baskets from Burke and a basket from Madelyn Potts.  Apaches 38, Pirates 29 final.

Maddie Burke led the Pirates with 13 points.  Catelyn Etter scored 7, Bryn Tegenkamp 5, Tygre Troyer and Maddie Potts 2 points each.  Etter and Tegenkamp made o 3n pointer each while the Apaches were hot from outside as they made 6 of 12.  Continental won the battle of the boards 32-18 with Maddie Burke getting 13 rebounds.
Continental falls to 0-5 and will travel to Holgate on Thursday for a nonleague game.  Fairview improves to 4-0.
