
On Friday night Fairview came out in the second half and took control of the non league game at the Cove. The night started great for the visiting Apaches as they came out and put up the first 6 points. That string was ended when Continental’s Reed Warnement put in a basket. A basket by the Apaches was met by a basket by Pirate Chris Potts. That finished the scoring for the first quarter Apaches 8, Pirates 4.
The second quarter had the Apaches open up the scoring with a basket and a free throw to make it 11-4 Apaches. A basket by Potts closed the gap to 5, 11-6 Apaches. A four point run by the Apaches made it a 9 point game 15-6. A 3 by Caleb Olds and a pair of free throws by Potts was sandwiched between an Apache basket making it 17-11 Apaches. An Apache free throw finished their scoring for the half The Pirates went four for four from the line (2 by Potts, 2 by Olds) to finish the half out with the score Apaches 18, Pirates 15.
The second half opened up great for the Pirates as baskets by Olds and Potts gave the Pirates their first and only lead of the night Pirates 19, Apaches 18. A 6 point run by the Apaches took the lead away from the Pirates. The run was stopped when Olds made a basket Apaches 24, Pirates 21. The Apaches would put in 8 of the final 10 points of the quarter to make it 32-23 Apaches after 3.
The fourth quarter was all Apaches as they outscored the Pirates 14-5 to take home the 46-28 win.
Chris Potts led the Pirates with 15 points while Caleb Olds had 9. Reed Warnement and Nick States both had 2 points. Olds hit the only 3-pointer by the Pirates.
Continental falls to 0-5 and will host Antwerp on Saturday. Fairview improves to 1-3. Fairview also took the Junior Varsity game 40-28.
