In the old CBA scoring, visiting Continental High would have escaped Antwerp with 1.5 points for winning 1 quarter and splitting another but they do not score high school games that way. The host Archers won the 2nd and 4th quarters propelling them to the 55-42 victory. The Archers started the game-scoring by hitting a pair of free throws. Carson Etter would counter for the Pirates with a free throw and a basket. A 3 by the Archers was followed by a Konnor Knipp Williams basket 5 all. An Archer basket was followed by Mason Rayle 3 Pirates 8-7. That would be the last Pirate lead as the Archers would retake the lead with a pair of baskets to make it 11-8 Archers. A Jonathon Etter 3 would tie it up at 11. Both teams would make a basket to finish off the quarter scoring with Knipp William hitting for the Pirates. 13 all after 1.
It was all Archers in the second quarter as the Pirates would only score a Knipp Williams basket while the Archers piled on 13 points. Archers 26-15 at half.
The Archers scored the 6 points of the first half and made it a 9 point run by putting in the first 3 of the second half to expand their lead 29-15. The Pirates would stop that run with a Knipp Williams basket. An Archer basket was followed with the Pirates getting a 3 from Rhenn Armey and a basket from Mason Rayle to make it 31-22 Archers. An Archer basket and a Pirate Carson Etter 3 point play made it an 8 point game. The teams would trade baskets to finish off the 3rd quarter scoring with the Pirates winning the quarter 12-9 and making it an 8 point game 35-27. Knipp Williams scored the last basket of the quarter.
Any hopes of a further comeback was squashed at the start of the 4th quarter as the Archers put in 9 of the first 10 points. Archers 44-28. The Pirates would add an Armey 3 to the Mason Rayle free throw. A pair of Archer baskets made it 48-31. Knipp Williams would add 2 for the Pirates. 3 points by the Archers was matched by Monty Rayle with a 3. Archers 51-36. A pair of Archer baskets would finish off their scoring at 55 while the Pirates would get 3s form Carson Etter and Mason Rayle. 55-42 Archer final.
Konnor Knipp Williams led the Pirates with 12 points while Carson Etter and Mason Rayle both put in 9 points. Rhenn Armey put in 6 points and Jonathon Etter and Monty Rayle both put in 3. The Pirates put in seven 3-pointers with Rhenn Armey and Mason Rayle both making 2 and Carson Etter, Jonathon Etter, and Monty Rayle making 1. The Archers made two 3-pointers. The Pirates were 3-7 from the line.
Continental is now 3-3 and will host Delphos St Johns on Tuesday. Antwerp it 1-1. Antwerp got a late start to the season due to their football teams’ success in the playoffs.
