Archers Remain Unbeaten With Win Over Pirates

December 13, 2020 by Adam Donaldson

Pirate Nation
On Saturday night Continental made the trip over by the stateline border to take on Antwerp in a nonleague boys Varsity battle.  The Pirates took the early lead on a Mitchell Coleman 3.  The Archers would then get on the board with a basket to make it 3-2.  A pair of baskets by the Pirates Reed Warnement and Coleman to take an early 7-2 lead.  The Archers would made a pair of free throws to make it a 3 point game 7-4.  It looked like it was gonna be the Pirates night as Alex Sharritis hit a 3 at the buzzer to make it 10-4 Pirates after 1.
The second quarter would start with the Archers putting in the first 6 points to tie the game at 10.  The Pirates would then go a on a 10 point run thanks to a pair of Coleman free throws, a Gavin Huff basket, and 3s by Coleman and Sharritis.  Pirates 20-10.  That would be it for the Pirates for the half as the Archers would finish the first half on an 8 point run.  Pirates 20, Archers 18 at half.
The second half would start with Huff making a basket to make it a Pirate 4 point lead 22-18.  The Archers would take their first lead of the night as they would string together a pair of made free throws and a pair of baskets to make it 24-22 Archers.  The Pirates would tie the game with a Huff basket 24 all.  The Archers would take the lead for good when they strung together a pair of baskets 28-24 Archers.  The Pirates would make it one point game with a 3 from Coleman.  Archers 28-27.  The Archers would get a basket which the Pirates followed up with a Coleman free throw 30-28 Archers.  The Archers would expand their lead to 5 with a basket and a free throw 33-28.  Just like the end of the first quarter it looked like it would be the Pirates night as Coleman was fouled on a 3 point attempt as time expired.  Coleman would make all 3 to make it 33-31 after 3.
Turned out it would not be the Pirates night as the Archers would open up the quarter with the first 16 points to take a 49-31 lead.  A pair of Coleman free throws would be the only points for the Pirates in the 4th as Antwerp would emerge the 46-33 winner.
Mitchell Coleman would lead the Pirates with 21 points.  Alex Sharritis would put in 6, Gavin Huff 4, and Reed Warnement 2.  Coleman made three 3s for the Pirates would Sharritis made 2.  The Archers made three  3 pointers.  Continental was 10-14 from the line while Antwerp was 11-17.
Continental falls to 2-4 and will host Delphos St Johns on Tuesday.  Antwerp improves to 6-0.
