Antwerp hit from the outside on Saturday and that proved to be the difference in the non league game against Continental. The host Archers put in the first 8 points of the game before the Pirates battled back with a 7 point run of their own thanks to 2 baskets by Gavin Huff and a 2 by Mitchell Coleman. Unfortunately that would be the Pirates only points in the first as the Archers would end the quarter with a pair of three’s (one at the buzzer) to have a 14-7 Archer lead after one.
The Archers would start the second quarter off with a 3 to take a 10 point 17-7 lead. Huff would make a basket and a free throw to reduce the margin to 7 – Archers 17, Pirates 10. Another 3 by the Archers (18 of their first 20 points were scored from 3 point land) would make it Archers 20, Pirates 10. A 3 by Coleman was followed by an Archer 2 to make it 22-13 Pirates. A 5 point run by the Pirates, Coleman 3, Huff 2, would make it a 4 point game Archers game 22-18. An Archer 2 was followed by a Huff 3 to make it a one possession game 24-21 Archers. The Archers would score the last 5 points of the half to enter the locker room with a 8 point lead. Archers 29, Pirates 21 at the half.
The third quarter had the Archers double the Pirates point effort 20-10 to take a 49-31 point lead heading into the final quarter. The Pirates got 8 points from Coleman and 2 from Huff in the third. The Archers put in 15 to the Pirates 6 in the final quarter for the 64-36 Archer final.
Mitchell Coleman lead the Pirates with 17 points while Gavin Huff put in 14. Reed Warnement, Taron Butler, and Zach Moran all had 2 for the Pirates. Coleman had 5 three-pointers for the Pirates while Huff had 1. Antwerp made 11 three’s.
Continental falls to 0-6 and will host Delphos St Johns on Tuesday. Antwerp improves to 4-1.
