
When Ottoville and Continental Girls basketball team met for their Putnam County League game on January 12 it was all Big Green as they held the Pirates scoreless in the first quarter and opened up with a 42-0 lead to start the game. Although the results were the same (Big Green win) the Pirates made the path to advance to the Ottawa Glandorf District Semifinals a little harder.
On Saturday at the Divisoion IV Paulding Sectional finals the Big Green opened up by making the first basket. Amber Logan for the Pirates responded with a basket to tie the game at 2. A 6 point Big Green run was stopped when Brooke Bradford made a free throw. A Big Green basket ended the scoring for the quarter at Big Green 10, Pirates 3.
The second quarter was all Big Green as they scored the first 14 points of the quarter to take a 24-3 lead. A Logan basket ended the run but were the only points for the Pirates for the quarter as another Big Green 4 point run made the score Big Green 28, Pirates 5 at half.
The third quarter had the Pirates make 8 points on a Alex Hoeffel 3-pointer and 5 points from Addyson Armey but the Big Green poured in 17 to take a 45-13 lead. The fourth quarter had the Pirates being outscored 15-6 for a 61-19 Big Green final.
Freshman Addyson Armey led the Pirates with 7 points while Junior Amber Logan put in 6. Freshman Alex Hoeffel scored 3, Senior Ashley Mansfield 2, and Sophomore Brooke Bradford 1. Addyson Armey and Alex Hoeffel both hit one 3-pointer.
Continental falls to 3-21 while Ottoville improves to 20-3. The Big Green seeded #1 at the Ottawa Glandorf District will move on to Ottawa Glandorf on Thursday to play Leipsic at 6:15.
