On Friday night Continental hosted Delphos St Johns in non league boys varsity action. The Pirates came out ready on Senior night as they put in the first 8 points of the game as Senior Trevor Williamson put 6 and Senior Jacob Williams made a basket. The Blue Jays came back and scored the 12 to take a 12-8 lead. A Chris Potts basket made it 12-10 Blue Jays at the end of one.
The Blue Jays made a three which was countered by a 3 from Caleb Olds to make it 17-13 Blue Jays. Both teams then scored 2 (Pirates on a Senior Wade Stauffer pair of free throws). A Blue Jay 7 point run was stopped by a Williamson basket to end the half. Blue Jays 24, Pirates 17 at half.
Following a great dance routine by the Cheerleaders at half, the Pirates cut the Blue Jays lead to 6 as Olds hit a 3 to start the third quarter scoring. A basket by the Blue Jays was followed by a Pirate 5 point run (a Tyler Brecht 3 and an Olds basket) to make it a one point game 26-25 Blue Jays. A Blue Jay 5 point run was stopped by an Olds 3 pointer. The Blue Jays would score 9 of the last 13 points of the half to take a 39-33 lead at the end of three. Olds hit for 10 in the third quarter.
Wade Stauffer would score the first four points of the fourth quarter to make it a 2 point game 39-37 Blue Jays. A Blue Jay run of 6 points made the deficit 8 points and the Pirates would never get closer than 6. Blue Jays 52, Pirates 43.
Caleb Olds led the Pirates with 13 points while Trevor Williamson put in 10. Wade Stauffer scored 9, Jacob Williams 4, Tyler Brecht 3, Chris Potts and Nick State 2 each. Caleb Olds hit 3 3-point shots while Trevor Williamson and Tyler Brecht both put in one.
Continental is now 13-9 and will next face Leipsic in the Ottawa-Glandorf Sectional Semifinals on Wednesday at 8pm. The sectional is not split session so Pirate fans can show up early to see the other side of the bracket Pandora-Gilboa vs Ottoville at 6:15. Winners of Wednesday night’s games will face off in the sectional final on Friday at 8:00.
Continetalenews sends out a big thank you and good luck in the future to Senior Basketball Players Dean Krendl, Trevor Williamson, Wade Stauffer, and Jacob Williams and to Senior Cheerleaders Briley Collier, Alivia Homier, and Paige Lawhorn.
