On Tuesday Continental High played host to the reigning Putnam County League Champions, Columbus Grove Girls Basketball team. It started out the Pirate way as Madelyn Potts hit an early 3 to put the Pirates up 3-0. A pair of basket by the Bulldogs put them up by a 4-3 margin. A basket by Maddie Burke put the Pirates back in the lead 5-4 but it would be last points for the Pirates in the first as the Bulldogs would close the quarter by hitting a pair of 3s for a 10-5 Bulldog lead after one. Burke would put in the first points of the second for the Pirates to cut the Bulldog lead to 3. A pair of free throws by the Bulldog was offset by a pair of Catelyn Etter free throws to make it 12-9 Bulldogs. The Bulldogs would then string together a pair of baskets and a pair of 3s to open up a 22-9 lead lead. The Pirates would put in the last points of the half when Etter would hit a 3 to make it Bulldogs 22, Pirates 12 at half.
The Bulldogs would open up the second half scoring by making a basket while the Pirates followed up with a Burke free throw. Bulldogs 24, Pirates 13. A pair of bulldog baskets was again followed up by a Burke free throw Bulldogs 28, Pirates 14. The Bulldogs would finish up the quarter with a basket and five 3s while the Pirates would get baskets from Burke, Etter, and Tygre Troyer. Bulldogs 45, Pirates 20 after 3. The Bulldogs would finish the last quarter with a 12 -8 advantage over Pirates for a 57-28 Bulldog final.
Maddie Burke led the Pirates with 12 points while Catelyn Etter put in 11. Madelyn Potts scored 3 and Tygre Troyer 2. Etter and Potts both hit 3s for the Pirates. Columbus Grove put in eleven 3s. Continental won the rebounding battle 32-24 with Burke getting 12 boards and Etter 11.
Continental falls to 0-3 (0-1 PCL) and will host Tinora on Thursday night. Columbus Grove improves to 1-2 (1-0 PCL).
