From the Continental Pirates Baseball Facebook page (3/28/16):
Wayne Trace got the best of the Pirates tonight in a frigid, nail-biter, 5-4. With the score tied, 4-4, with 2 outs in the 7th, winning Raiders’ relief pitcher Noah Stoller helped himself by singling home Luke Miller with the 5th and final run.
The team had an early 3-0 lead after 2 innings, but we missed some chances to add on in the middle innings and it cost us.
Bright spots:
– Terry Dockery III – 2-for-3 with a single, double, 2 runs scored, and 2 more stolen bases…. also pitched 5 innings allowing 2 hits, 5 walks, 2 hit batters, and 9 strikeouts.
– Trevor Williamson – 1-for-2 with an RBI double and reached base on a hit by pitch.
– Dylan Coleman – 1-for-3 with a walk, 1 run scored and an RBI single
– Jacob Williams and Payton Weller each collected their first hits of the year. Jacob’s hit was a bunt single.
– Saige Deleon – went 1-for-4 and knocked in a run for the 2nd straight game. He also pitched 1 2/3 innings of relief of Dockery and struck out 3 batters. *Dockery and DeLeon combined for 12 strikeouts among the 20 total outs.
– Our team made just one error (on a pickoff try) the whole game. Another fine team effort!!
Our Pirates will go again tomorrow (Tuesday) at home vs. last year’s PCL champ Miller City. Payton Weller will be the home team’s starting pitcher.
