
Huff would open up the second scoring with a basket and then it was Locos who strung together a 9 point run to tie the game at 16. Andrew Hoeffel would stop the Loco run with a basket and that was followed by a Coleman free throw to put the Pirates back on top 19-16. A pair of Loco baskets would give them their first lead of the night 20-19. A Coleman 3 would finish up the half’s scoring. Pirates 22-20.
The third quarter was all Coleman and Yahrass as the pair combined for 27 of the 37 points scored. Coleman put in 16 points including four 3s while Yarhsaa put in 11 for the Locos. The Pirates won the quarter 20-17 and took a 42 -37 lead into the final quarter.
The final quarter would have the Locos never getting within 3. Coleman would close the game with the final 8 points making a basket and going 6-6 from the line. Continental 57-47 winner.
Mitchell Coleman finished the game with 40 points while Gavin Huff and Reed Warnement both put in 8. Coleman put in seven 3 pointers for the Pirates one short of the team record held by Coleman and Head Coach Keck. Coleman and the Pirates were 7-8 from the line while the Locos were 6-9. Continental outrebounded Montpelier 24-14.
Continental improves to 5-9 and will travel to North Central on Saturday night for another nonleague battle against a Buckeye Border Conference foe. North Central is in Pioneer, just head North on 15 and if you get to Michigan you went too far. Montpelier is 6-5.
The atmosphere at the game was eerie as neither the Cheerleaders nor the Pep Band were in attendance.
Coleman now has scored 1119 and has moved into 12th place in the Pirate career scoring list passing Wade Stauffer. Coleman is 44th in the Putnam County boys career scoring list. Coleman’s 40 point effort puts him at 37th in the single game boys Putnam County list, tied with 11 others. Some of the names he is tied with are Stretch Goedde (Vaughnsville), Tom Heckman (O-G against Continental in 1965) and Continental’s Brad Spitnale. The last time a boy scored 40+ for a Putnam County game was in 2015.
