From the Continental Pirate Baseball Facebook page, Wednesday 4/27:
Continental came “oh-so-close” tonight at Columbus Grove as the Pirates fell to the Bulldogs, 6-5. Trailing 6-3 in the 7th, Continental got four straight hits from the top of the lineup to make the score, 6-5, and put 2 runners on base. Unfortunately, 3 outs later, neither runner had crossed home plate, and the home team held onto a 1-run win.
Pirate pitching continued to struggle with control tonight, but Chris Potts bailed out starter Terry Dockery III in the 2nd inning, and held Continental in the game through the 5th inning. Payton Weller also pitched a scoreless 6th inning to give the team one last chance.
Trevor Williamson led all hitters with a perfect night at the plate (2-for-2 with a BB and a HBP) and a fine diving catch at shortstop. Terry Dockery III added a 2-for-3 night that included a HBP of his own. Dylan Coleman had a single, a walk, and reached on an error, and Saige Deleon went 1-for-4 with 3 RBI and another fine game behind the plate as catcher.
Barring a 3rd rainout, Continental will play at Pandora-Gilboa tomorrow (Thursday) night.
Editor’s note – the Pandora game was rained out, the Pirates travel to Ayersville on Friday afternoon to meet up with the Pilots.
