
Continental B-League put on a dominant offensive display on Thursday, May 23rd, defeating Columbus Grove Gray by a score of 18-3 in a game shortened by run rule. The Pirates wasted no time getting on the board, plating five runs in the top of the first inning and adding to their lead throughout the contest.
Continental Bats Erupt Early
The onslaught began with a single by Ashton Donaldson, followed by an error by the Columbus Grove second baseman that put Fynn Slattman on base. Continental capitalized on the miscue, scoring a run on a single by Remington Wollam. The hits kept coming, with Asher Deken, Linden Basinger, and Lucas Gyetvai all collecting RBIs to push the score to 5-0.
Big Third Inning for Continental
Continental continued to pour it on in the top of the third. Nolan Wagner doubled, and Braden Cole reached on a hit-by-pitch. Lucas Gyetvai and Brock Horstman followed with RBI singles, and Continental capitalized on more Columbus Grove miscues to score four more runs. Reed Brown capped off the inning with a bases-clearing triple, putting the score at 16-0.
Columbus Grove Gets on the Board
Columbus Grove managed to score three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the significant deficit. Due to run rules, the game was called after the top of the fifth inning, with Continental securing a convincing victory.
Offensive Standouts
Ashton Donaldson led the way at the plate for Continental, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs scored. Nolan Wagner had a pair of doubles, while Reed Brown’s bases-clearing triple was a key part of the team’s big third inning. Overall, ten different Continental players recorded hits, with the team racking up a total of 20.
Strong Pitching Performance
Remington Wollam was dominant on the mound, earning the win for Continental. Over two scoreless innings, Wollam showcased impressive control, facing only 9 batters.
