
The organizational meeting for the Continental School Board was held at 7:00 p.m. on January 8, 2020 in the high school cafeteria with the regular monthly meeting following. The meeting was called to order by the “president pro-tem”, Robin Etter.
Katelyn Adams administered the Oath of Office to newly elected board members Brian Donaldson and Derek Heitzman.
Re-elected as board president was Dean Bidlack. Ron Bradford was elected as vice president. Board meeting dates will continue to be held on the third Tuesday of each month with meetings beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the administrative office boardroom. Mr. Kissell was reappointed as purchasing agent and authorized to employ temporary personnel. Derek Heitzman was appointed as Legislative Liaison to OSBA and Brian Donaldson was appointed as Student Achievement Liaison. It was approved to dispense with the reading of the “minutes” of the previous meeting. 2020 board committees were established.

The Organization meeting concluded at 7:14 pm. The Regular meeting began immediately after. A moment of silence was held in honor of Vince Koza, area sports broadcaster, who recently lost his battle with cancer on January 3 at the James Cancer Hospital.
Also in attendance was Columbus Grove Superintendent Nick Verhoff who wanted to express to the board his appreciation to the administration and staff at Continental School for making his special needs students that attend the county unit at Continental School feel welcomed and valued. He also expressed his appreciation for the time and commitment that is given toward educating his students.
Mrs. Tracy Potts, Elementary Principal, reported:
•Second round of DIBELS testing is complete.
•Mrs. Homier and Mrs. Retcher have volunteered to mentor two students from Defiance College. The
students began their field experience on January 6.

– January 20, No School, Martin Luther King Day
– February 4, All A’s Recognition at the Girls’ Basketball Game
Mr. Tim Eding, JH/HS Principal, reported:
•Vantage met with Sophomores this week to introduce their programs and answer questions about the
upcoming Sophomore Visitation Day on January 31.
•The College Credit Plus parent meeting will be held on Wednesday, January 15 at 6:00pm in the high
school library. Any parents and students currently in grades 6-11 that are considering taking CC+ classes
next year should attend this meeting to learn more about the program.
•The statewide OHSAA Military Appreciation Night will be on Friday, February 17 (boys basketball vs. Fort
Jennings). All local veterans are encouraged to attend.
•No School on Monday, January 20 (Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr Day).
•The homecoming dance will be on Friday, January 24 and the homecoming game is scheduled for
Saturday, January 25 vs. North Central.
•All A’s recognition for the first semester will be at the February 4 girls basketball game vs. Wayne Trace.
JH/HS students will be recognized during the JV halftime and elementary students will be recognized during
the varsity halftime.
•The PBIS theme for January is discipline. We will have a house meeting on Friday to introduce this month’s
theme and participate in activities designed to encourage students to be more disciplined.

•Approved the following appropriation change:
Establish and increase fund 499 9620 BWC Safety Intervention Grant for $31,637.25
•Approved the following donations:
$1000 from Mike Walls to the Walls Scholarship Fund
$100 from Continental Lion’s Club for HOBY registration
•Approved five-year tax abatement consideration for a new property structure located at 103 South First
Street (Parcel Numbers 24-077200-0000), Continental, Ohio, owned by David and Leona Stauffer.
Superintendent’s Report:
•January is School Board Recognition Month. Our school children benefit every day from the dedication and
commitment to public education that our board gives. On behalf of the students, staff, and administration at
Continental School, thank you for your service and leadership.

•a resolution stating the board’s opposition to the EdChoice voucher program.
•a resolution showing support of the Plain Local Board of Education’s efforts challenging R.C. 3311.242 and the
serious consequences it presents to public school districts.

•Ron Bradford gave the Vantage Career Center report.
The Board:
•Appointed Robin Etter to the Vantage Career Center Board of Education for a three-year term of office,
commencing on January 8, 2020.
•Approved maternity leave to kindergarten teacher Danielle Stallkamp. Anticipated six-week leave will begin
approximately February 10th.
•Employed Nathan Hinkle as a part-time custodian at 5.5 hours per day and issued him a one-year limited contract at
Step 0, effective January 13, 2020-June 30, 2020.
•The next regular Board meeting is February 18, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. in the administrative office.
