
The regular meeting for the Continental School Board was held at 7:30 p.m. on September 18, 2019 in the administrative office. The meeting was called to order by board president Dean Bidlack.
Hearing of the Public:
NW Region OSBA Veteran Board Member Recognition: Robin Etter is being recognized for 10 years of service and will be honored at the NW Region OSBA Annual Fall Conference on Thursday, October 3, 2019.
In Mrs. Tracy Potts’ absence, Mr. Kissell gave the Elementary Principal Report:
•Packs for Pirates started September 6. We are serving 70 students.
•The PBIS program is in full swing. The program was recently featured in the Putnam County Sentinel.
•The makerspace is being used daily. Mrs Baughman worked hard this summer to remodel the room. Mr. Stegbauer is working on a lego wall.
•Mrs. Baughman also revamped the library. She added cozy seating, shelving, and containers to display books.
•Enrollment: 264 students (19 new enrollments; 21 students moved).

Mr. Tim Eding, JH/HS Principal, reported:
•Thank you to everyone that purchased items to support the 7th and 8th grade fundraiser. The sale and funds that are generated will support the students as they go through JH/HS and help defer the costs of things like Prom, Graduation, etc.
•Mrs. Swonger and her advanced art students will be painting the annual Fall Fest mural tomorrow during the school day.
•Friday is the mid-term of the 1st quarter.
•The fall is busy with many college visits from schools across the state–Juniors and Seniors are encouraged to meet with the representatives as they weigh their options for the future.

Treasurer’s Report:
The Board:
•Approved the following donations:
$1,000 from the Cooper Family Foundation for the VH Cooper Scholarship
$250 from the Village of Arlington Parade to the Music Fund
Superintendent’s Report:
•Reviewed and accepted the Career Advising Policy, without changes.
•The transportation report was given. The State Highway Patrol will be riding and following the buses for observation of individuals running the stopped school bus red lights.
•Putnam County opening day enrollment figures were shared with the Board.
•Ron Bradford gave the Vantage Career Center report.
The Board:
•Resolved it will not provide Career Technical Education to middle school students for the 2019-2020 school year.
•Entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Defiance College for the hosting of teacher education candidates.
The school will receive a $100 donation per student at the end of each semester, to be used at the school’s discretion.
•Approved the Kindergarten field trip to the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo on Friday, September 20, 2019.
•Approved resignation of Erin Schmidt, 8th grade girls volleyball coach, effective September 11, 2019. Mrs. Schmidt will be paid for days worked in coach’s calendar prior to this date.
•Approved Brooke Bradford as a co-eighth grade girls volleyball coach, effective September 11, 2019. Ms. Bradford will be paid for remaining work days in the coach’s calendar (due to maternity leave of Coach Erin Schmidt).
•Approved Brooke Bradford as a substitute secretary for the 2019-2020 school year.
•Accepted the resignation of Brock Homier as the 7th grade boys basketball coach.
•Approved Brock Homier as a varsity boys basketball volunteer.
•Approved maternity leaves to Tia Vogt (student aide) and Katelyn Adams (treasurer).
•Approved Marie Bidlack as a substitute secretary and aide for the 2019-2020 school year.
•Approved Jessica Stauffer as a co-eighth co-eighth grade girls volleyball coach, effective September 11, 2019. Ms. Stauffer will be paid for remaining work days in the coach’s calendar (due to maternity leave of Coach Erin Schmidt).
•Approved Becky Gerschutz as an interim assistant treasurer, pending proper certification and satisfactory FBI/BCI background checks, and assign her the duties and responsibilities of an interim treasurer’s assistant while current treasurer is on maternity leave. Mrs. Gerschutz will be issued a limited contract effective September 11 through December 31, 2019.
•Amend Jeff Prowant’s fall concession contract to include the following language:
“For any dates that Jeff cannot be present at the events to run concessions, $25.00 will be deducted from the supplemental amount and paid to the person covering the event.”
•Approved stipend to Joyce Howell for interim payroll processing work from August through December 2019.
•Approved updated substitute rates of pay, effective October 22, 2019.
•Approved the following supplemental contracts, pending certification and satisfactory FBI/BCI background checks, if applicable, for the 2019-2020 school year:
