
The organizational meeting for the Continental School Board was held at 7:30 p.m. on January 9, 2019 in the administrative office with the regular monthly meeting following. The meeting was called to order by the “president pro-tem”, Robin Etter.
A moment of silence was taken in honor of Beverly Sabo, Treasurer of Continental Local Schools from November 2016 thru January 4, 2019. Beverly lost her battle with cancer on January 4, 2019.
Re-elected were Dean Bidlack, board president; and Chad Olds, vice president. Board meeting dates will continue to be held on the third Tuesday of each month with meetings beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the administrative office boardroom. Mr. Kissell was reappointed as purchasing agent and authorized to employ temporary personnel. Ron Bradford was appointed as Legislative Liaison to OSBA and Robin Etter was appointed as Student Achievement Liaison. It was approved to dispense with the reading of the “minutes” of the previous meeting. 2019 board committees were established.

Mrs. Tracy Potts, Elementary Principal, reported:
•Second round of DIBELS testing is complete.
•We will have four students from Defiance College for six weeks starting January 29. Jenna Warnimont,
Sharon Siebeneck, Amanda Gray and Sara Thomsen have all volunteered to be mentors.
•Upcoming Events:
–January 11, End of the Second Quarter
–January 21, No School, Martin Luther King Day
–January 26, All A’s Recognition at the Boys’ Basketball Game
Mr. Tim Eding, JH/HS Dean of Students, reported:
•The top hallway was painted over the holiday break and looks great. All three levels of the JH/HS building
now match and look very nice. We have received a lot of good comments on the new color scheme and
fresh look to the building.
•The window coverings in the breezeway/gym area as well as the entrance door by the guidance office/art
room were also installed over the break.
•The new camera system is about 95% installed. There are a few things that X-tech will be coming back to
address and they also will be providing more training on the system at that time.
•Semester exams were held the week before the break and the students and staff have provided a lot of
positive feedback about that change.
•The end of the second quarter/first semester is Friday, January 11.
•We will begin our PBIS program with 7th & 8th graders on Monday (start of the 3rd quarter). Students will
be divided into “houses” and have opportunities to earn rewards/incentives for positive behaviors. A big
thank you to the teachers who have put many planning hours in the program and getting things ready to roll
out to the students.
•Vantage will be here on Tuesday, January 15 to meet with our sophomores (Sophomore Visitation Day is
scheduled for February 1).
•The Kevin HInes Assembly that was scheduled and cancelled in November will be this coming Wednesday
(January 16). We will be taking all of our high school students to Fort Jennings HS that morning for the
presentation.
•There is no School on Monday, January 21st for MLK Day.
•The OHSAA’s annual “Military Appreciation Night” will be on Friday, January 18 at the Fort Jennings game,
held at Fort Jennings this year.
•All A’s Recognition will be during the boys game vs Archbold on Saturday, January 26.
•The homecoming dance will be held on Friday, February 1 and the homecoming game will be Saturday,
February 2 vs. Columbus Grove.
•Mr. Stegbauer’s classes are partnering with Habitat for Humanity to build an 8’ x 10’ shed that will be raffled
off in April to benefit the Putnam County Habitat for Humanity. Raffle tickets will be available at an upcoming
home basketball game or by contacting Mr. Stegbauer at the school.
Treasurer’s Report:
The Board:
•Approved the FY 2019 Alternative Tax Budget as required by the Putnam County Auditor.
•Approved the transfer from the Class of 2023 to the Class of 2024 for $2,212.83.
•Accepted a $250 donation from Deb and Ira Good to the Industrial Arts Fund.
Superintendent’s Report:
•January is School Board Recognition Month. Our school children benefit every day from your dedication and
commitment to public education. On behalf of the students, staff, and administration at Continental School, thank you for your service and leadership as a school board member.
•Ron Bradford gave the Vantage Career Center report.
The Board:
•Approved maternity leave for second grade teacher CarrieJo Verhoff. Anticipated eight-week leave will begin on
February 4, 2019.
•Approved Marie Bidlack for EMIS duties and EMIS training services effective January 7 thru March 31, 2019, on an
as-needed basis, not to exceed 20 hours per week.
•Approved to retain Interim Treasurer Ann Lamb at current rate/benefits thru Friday, March 1, 2019.
•Approved the following substitute custodial workers and 2019 summer helpers on an “as needed” basis:
Karson Prowant, Nick Koenig, and Kerri Prowant
•Approved Dave Boninsegna as a substitute bus driver and will issue him a driving certificate pending receipt of
appropriate paperwork and satisfactory background checks.
