Continental Board of Education Met June 12, 2024

The regular meeting for the Continental School Board was held at 6:00 pm on June 12, 2024 in the administrative
office. The meeting was called to order by Board President Dean Bidlack, who opened the meeting with the Pledge of
Allegiance.
Hearing of the Public:
The Board recognized and congratulated the following students for their achievements:
Artists of the Month:
Claire & Eliza Rodgers, Grade 6
Kaylee Boecker, Freshman
Claire and Eliza Rodgers recently completed sixth grade at Continental Elementary and daughters of Jessica
Burkholder and Alexander Rodgers. Their “Camouflage Painting” is on display in the administrative office at
Continental School.
Kaylee Boecker just completed her freshman year at Continental High School and is the daughter of Danette and
Christopher Boecker. Her artwork entitled “Roy Rooster” is on display in the boardroom of the administrative office at Continental School.
A Proclamation was read honoring Chief Arnie Hardy for his 23 years of service to Continental Local School.
A Proclamation was read honoring Secretary Joyce Howell for her 40 years of service to Continental Local School.

Mrs. Tracy Potts, Elementary Principal, reported:
•Congratulations to Mrs. Taylor Geckle. She was recognized by the Down Syndrome Association of Greater
Toledo for going above and beyond this year to create an inclusive and accepting classroom environment fora student with Down syndrome. Mrs. Geckle was presented a small gift in May and her class received a treat.
•End-of-year enrollment: 280 students. Mobility for 23-24 was:
•21 new students
•19 withdrawn
•0 Retentions (except Kinderstart)
•We currently have 10 new students for next year:
•3 who were open enrolled to other districts last year
•2 open enrolling
•2 from on-line school
•3 move ins
•No withdrawals at this time
Mr. Tim Eding, JH/HS Principal, reported:
•Positive results from our school climate survey were shared with the Board.
Treasurer’s Report:
The Board:
•accepted donations from:
•$100 from the CEA to the Continental Community Scholarship Fund;
•$300 from the CEA to the Flower Fund;
•$300 from the American Legion Post 541 to the Music Fund for Memorial Day participation; and
•$1,014.49 from employees Carol Sullivan, Theresa Matson, Kelli Roney, Cyndi Brown, Brian
Stegbauer, and Tia Vogt to the Continental School Scholarship Fund in lieu of service pins.
•approved to participate in the National School Lunch and Breakfast Program for school year 2024-2025.
•established the following cafeteria lunch and milk prices for school year 2024-2025:
K-6 Lunch $2.70
7-12 Lunch $3.20
K-12 Reduced Lunch $ .40
Adult Lunch $4.00
K-12 Breakfast $1.85
K-12 Reduced Breakfast $ .30
Extra Milk $ .60
•heard the end-of-year cafeteria report from Food Services Director Suellen Backus.
•approved the FY24 final appropriations.
•approved the FY25 permanent appropriations.
•approved the following transfers:
$2,594.91 From 001 General Fund to the 001 9093 Prescription Fund.
$364.52 from Class of 2024 split 50/50 to Classes of 2025 and 2026
•approved July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2025 school insurances from SORSA (Schools of Ohio Risk Sharing Authority) for property, fleet, and liability with a total liability limit of $15,000,000 at a premium of $76,110.
•approved a 15-year TIF Agreement Application for the NASA Farms, LLC – 224.
Superintendent’s Report:
•Robin Etter gave the Vantage Career Center report.
•The transportation report was shared with the Board.
•discussed therapy dog Memphis that is coming to us by Therapy Dog Training through Mrs. Tegan Huff. Tegan is
Memphis’ owner and primary handler. Memphis will spend her days at Continental Elementary with Mrs. Huff,
Mrs. Erin Schmidt, and other trained handlers. Memphis will have many beneficial traits to offer the students and staff at Continental Local, such as physical, social, cognitive, emotional, and environmental. Strict guidelines will be adhered to in order to ensure the safety of all students, staff, visitors, and Memphis!
The Board:
•approved elementary and junior high/high school student handbooks for 2024-2025.
•approved $40.00 K-12 workbook/supply fee that are unchanged from last year for all students for school year
2024-2025. Extra fees may be applicable for some projects. In addition to the workbook fee, there will be a $50.00
iPad premium (to be used toward iPad initiative) for students in grades 7-12.
•approved the following Memorandum of Understandings:
Addition of Esports as a supplemental position
Addition of Art Club as a supplemental position
Language edit for a sick leave provision
•approved to add a cook/cashier position for the 2024-2025 school year at 2-3 hours per day, 183 days per year.
•approved to add a full time aide position at the elementary building to work with the Elementary Media Specialist.
•recognized the following staff members who were recognized for their service at Continental Local School:

•reaffirmed the hiring of Allison Gilliland from the June, 28, 2023 board meeting to continue working under her
substitute teaching license while pursuing appropriate licensure.
•accepted the teaching resignation of Jordan Streicher.
•accept the following supplemental resignations:
Jami Sullivan, Assistant Softball
Jordan Streicher, Athletic Director
•employed Spencer Ordway as a junior high/high school social studies teacher, and issued a one-year limited contract, effective August 15, 2024 at Step 7BA+150, pending certification and verification, for the 2024-2025 school year.
•approved the following supplemental and pupil activity contracts, pending proper certification and satisfactory FBI/BCI background checks, if applicable, for the 2024-2025 school year. These contracts will be voided if the sport or activity is unable to take place:

The next regular Board meeting is July 17, 2024 at 6:00 p.m. in the administrative office.
The meeting adjourned at 7:08 pm.
