Tuesday, June 6, 2023 – The Continental Elementary Pirates B-League entered the final inning down 6-2 but momentum changed when Ashton Donaldson stepped up to a bases loaded plate after a series of walks and advanced one runner from a single base hit to second base, making the score 6-3. Following up, Linden Bassinger doubles on a line drive to right field tieing the game by batting in three. After another walk and strike out, Dane Heitzman singles on a ground ball to right field scoring the final run for the game and the Pirates emerge victorious 7-6 proving the importance of playing hard to the end and never giving up.
Both team’s offenses were strong at the plate as Continental Elementary Pirates collected four hits and Kalida Gold six in the high-scoring affair.
Kalida Gold got on the board in the first inning when Zach S grounded out, scoring one run.
Kalida Gold scored three runs in the fifth inning. Zach and Spencer H all moved runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.
Dane got the win for Continental Elementary Pirates. The ace allowed one hit and one run over three innings, striking out five and walking one. Brandt J threw two and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Hayden B led things off on the mound for B Team Kalida Gold. Hayden went five and two-thirds innings, allowing seven runs on four hits and striking out 14.
Dane went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Continental Elementary Pirates in hits.
Jake B led B Team Kalida Gold with two hits in three at bats.
