Continental Jr Gardener News from Charlene Finch

April 12, 2019 by Karen Donaldson

I have decided not to offer the Junior Gardener Program anymore. The program was established by me nearly a decade ago with a purpose and philosophy:

  • To add beauty to our community through plants and flowers.
  • To provide education to the children by participation of planting flowers & veggies. Through projects like field trips, gourd art, craft projects, and human interest projects.
  • To provide the program completely at no cost to the students. This was accomplished by farmer market fundraisers, 50/50 raffles, and the Fall Fest.

I would like to extend an earnest and heartfelt thank you to the community for supporting the Junior Gardeners through the years. A great big thank you to the organizations, businesses, and individuals who have been super supportive. A thank you to everyone who purchased 50/50 tickets, giant dill pickles, farmer market shoppers or painted pumpkins. A big thank you to all the Gardener parents who have been super helpful, and more energetic than me. A thank you to my sisters, Donelda and Lisa, who were my regular helpers.

A great big giant size, special, special heartfelt thank you to all the students who participated in the Junior Gardeners over the years. Every one of them has a special place in my heart, after all the students are the heart of the program.

The money remaining in the Junior Gardener treasury will be distributed back into the community.

–Charlene Finch
