
The regular meeting for the Continental School Board was held at 5:30 p.m. on April 17, 2018 in the administrative office. The meeting was called to order by the president Dean Bidlack.
Mrs. Tracy Potts, Elementary Principal, reported:
•Kindergarten screening will be held on Thursday, April 19th. Currently, we are expecting 52 students for next year’s kindergarten class.
•Third graders will be going to Farm Safety on Wednesday, April 18th.
•The fifth and sixth grade girls are participating in Girls Circle. The girls are participating in social skills lessons during recess.
•The ELA state testing is almost complete with Thursday being the last day. Students will take the math state test on Monday, April 24th with Science the following week.
•Girls on the Run program is part of our 21st Century program. The girls meet twice a week and learn life skills through fun, engaging lessons that celebrate the joy of movement. The curriculum is taught by certified Girls on the Run coaches. The Continental coach is Lori Allen. The program ends on May 12th when the girls go to Toledo to run in a 5K.

Mr. Tim Eding, JH/HS Dean of Students, reported:
•The evacuation drill on April 4th went very well.
•The Ohio Supreme Court event that our government students attended last week at OGHS was a great opportunity for the students. Our students were able to hear oral arguments and see the court in action as well as debrief with the lawyers after their arguments.
•Congratulations to the Cast and Crew of the school musical, Seussical the Musical! All three shows were very well attended. Thank you to all who helped, especially Mrs. Heil, Mr. Swonger, Mrs. Jones, and the parents!
•Friday is the midterm of the 4th quarter.
•EOC testing is going well. ELA End of Course Exams are finished for grades 7-12. Math, Science, and Social Studies tests are taking place this week.

Treasurer’s Report: The Board:
•Accepted the following donations:
$300 from Continental Blue and Gold Club to the Girls Soccer Fund
$50 from an Anonymous Donor to the Stage and Music Fund
$100 from an Anonymous Donor to the Art Fund
$75 from Charlene Finch to be used toward the purchase of a pitching machine for the girls softball program.
•Approved the Community Reinvestment Area Tax Exemptions (5-year 50% tax abatements) for the Village of Continental, to new construction homeowners Brian and Sarah Niese, and Anna Marie Tumblin.
•Approved a request by Monroe Township Trustees for a 100% TIF Package for 15 years for necessary yearly maintenance of Road C-20 due to the construction and operations of Mr. James Cooper, CEO of Cooper Farms, Inc. 100% of taxes generated are to be directed for necessary yearly maintenance costs for Road C-20.

•Approved the tentative list of seniors (35) that will graduate May 27, 2018, pending passage of all state and local requirements.
•Accepted the quotes from TekPartners for elementary and high school camera systems.
•Approved the College Credit Plus partnership agreement addendum for the 2018-2019 school year with James A. Rhodes State College.
•Approved the NWOET contract renewal for educational technology services at a cost of $957.45. •Commended Sarah Baughman for her participation in the e3smart energy efficiency education program in partnership with AEP Ohio during the 2017-2018 school year through the Ohio Energy Project. Mrs. Baughman received over $500 in science equipment and supplies for classroom use at no cost to our district. In addition, each participating student received a free Home Energy Efficiency Kit to help reduce electricity and natural gas usage in their home. Thank you Mrs. Baughman for participating in and doing a great job with this project!

•Approved the following custodial helpers for the summer of 2018, on an “as needed” basis, and established their hourly rate of pay at $8.50 per hour: Nick Koenig, Taylor Williamson, and Karson Prowant.
•Accepted the resignation letter of Emily Fuller, high school English language arts teacher, effective August 15, 2018.
•Went into Executive Session at 6:00 p.m. to discuss compensation of a public employee/official for Continental Local School and exited at 6:55 p.m.
