Continental Local School Board of Education Met 3/20/24

The regular meeting for the Continental School Board was held at 6:00 pm on March 20, 2024 in the administrative
office. The meeting was called to order by Board President Dean Bidlack, who opened the meeting with the Pledge of
Allegiance.
Hearing of the Public:
The Board recognized and congratulated the following students for their achievements:
Students of the Month Artists of the Month

Mrs. Tracy Potts, Elementary Principal, reported:
•3rd Quarter Reward Outing: 3/20 and 3/27 – Students will go to the YMCA to swim, eat pizza and play in the
recreation room.
•State testing begins on Thursday, April 4.
•Book Fair: Our annual Book Fair is complete. We received approximately $3,000 in free books.
•Parents of Pirates: The POP group is hosting a family fun night at the Ottawa YMCA on April 5, 2024. They
are also sponsoring a SuperYou assembly on March 25.
•Upcoming events:
Mar. 25 – 1:00 pm – SuperYou Assembly K-6
Mar. 26 – 1:30 pm – Talent Show
Mar. 27 – YMCA – Grades 1-4
Mar. 28 – April 1 – Easter Break
April 2 – 8:30-10:30 am – House Time
April 2-5 – 2nd grade swim
April 8 – No School – Solar Eclipse
Mr. Tim Eding, JH/HS Principal, reported:
•3rd quarter report cards were posted. Students/parents can login to view the report card through
ParentAccess in ProgressBook.
•On March 15, as part of our PBIS program, 15-20 students made presentations to their peers about
different skills or knowledge that they wanted to share. Topics included welding, animal care, braiding,
makeup, healthy living, employability, automotive maintenance, and communicating with a language barrier
(among other things). A big thank you to the students that put themselves out there for this event and to the
staff that planned everything–it was a big success!
•Recently, staff met with students to discuss elective options for next year. We are looking at some
revisions to the schedule due to the addition of the personal finance class (now mandatory as a standalone
course). There may be other electives available that were not previously offered. Students
are working on their course requests now–they are due on Friday, March 22.
•On Monday we will be taking 131 students to the Defiance YMCA for the 3rd quarter reward outing. These
are all students that qualified based on attendance, grades, and discipline.
•Spring sports have begun! Games/meets are permitted to begin this Saturday.
•Mr. Kosch has had his first two practices with the Esports team. Things seem to be going well and the
students seem to really be enjoying things so far.
•Congratulations to all of the Continental students that had artwork in the Putnam County Art Show at
Ottoville last weekend. Also, congratulations to those that participated in the All-County Band & Choir show:
Maverick Grant, Kaelyn Clementz, Kim Grant, Mackenzie Schaffner, Tyson Clementz, and Camren Burgei.
•There is no school from March 28-April 1 for the Easter break and on April 8 due to the eclipse.
•The juniors will be participating in their Job Shadow Day on April 3. We also will be taking our seniors to
the Paulding County Job Fair that same day so they can see different jobs that are available in our
area.
•State testing will begin on April 9 and should be completed by April 19.
•The government & personal finance classes will be going to OGHS to participate in Real Money/Real
World, which is coordinated by the Ag Extension Office, on April 10.
•The junior English students will be participating in Mock Interviews on April 12.
•Mr. Nathan Schmidt and his robotics students are working hard to prepare for the upcoming National
Robotics Challenge in Marion from April 18-20.
Treasurer’s Report:
The Board:
•Approved the following donations:
$ 30 from exempt employees to the Flower Fund
$500 from Marathon Petroleum Company, through the Blackbaud Giving Fund, to the Elementary
Principal’s Fund
•Approved the following transfers:
$300,000 from Capital Projects 070 0000 to cash account 070 9001
$200,000 from Capital Projects 070 0000 to cash account 070 9002
$200,000 from Capital Projects 070 0000 to cash account 070 9003
•Approved a resolution to amend Resolution #87-21, establishing a capital projects fund for the purpose of
accumulating resources for the acquisition, construction, or improvement of fixed assets.
•Approved the first reading on the following NEOLA policies:

Superintendent’s Report:
•Robin Etter gave the Vantage Career Center report.
•The transportation report was shared with the Board.
The Board:
•Approved a Memorandum of Understanding and Data Sharing Agreement with Rhodes State College for College
Credit Plus Classes for the 2024-2025 school year.
•Entered into a partnership agreement with Owens State Community College for College Credit Plus Classes for the
2024-2025 school year.
•Increased van driver pay to $12.75 per hour with a minimum pay of 3-hours per field trip.
•Non-renewed the following 2023-2024 supplemental and pupil activity contracts:

•Approved the March 2024 Putnam County substitute teacher list, provided by the Putnam County ESC.
•Approved employment of Kimberly Grant as a student summer custodial helper at $11.60 per hour on an
“as-needed” basis.
•Approved a pupil activity contract to Isaac Gibbs for Varsity Girls Track Coach for the 2024 track season, pending
proper certification and background checks:
•Approved maternity leave to teachers Emily Fuller and Allison Gilliland. Both are expected to take leave in May
and be off through the remainder of the school year.
•Approved May 7, 2024 as a dock day for Tia Vogt.
•Approved Madelyn Potts as a temporary substitute teacher who does not hold a post-secondary degree, as is
otherwise required pursuant to Ohio law and regulations.
•Approved Brianna Osterhage as an elementary intervention specialist and issued her a one-year limited contract,
pending proper certification and satisfactory background checks, effective August 15, 2024 at Step 6M, pending
verification, for the 2024-2025 school year.
The next regular Board meeting will be April 10 at 6:00 pm in the administrative office.
The meeting adjourned at 6:47 pm.
