
The regular meeting for the Continental School Board was held at 6:00 p.m. on November 20th, in the administrative office. The meeting was called to order by Board President Dean Bidlack, who opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance.
Hearing of the Public:
The following students are being recognized as September “Students of the Month”:
Elementary:
Mason Ordway is a third grade student at Continental Elementary School and the son of Lori Ordway and Robert Ordway.
Nolan Wagneris a fifth-grade student at Continental Elementary School and the son of Justin and Sarah Wagner.
Junior High/High School:
Jaxon Slattman is a senior at Continental High School and the son of Monica and Jason Slattman.
Congratulations to the following students who were selected as October “Artists of the Month”:
Elementary
–Adaline Glavich is a second grade student at Continental and the daughter of Joseph and Courtney Glavich. Her artwork titled “Stripes the Raccoon” is on display in the administrative office.
Junior High/High School
–Tabby Callahan is a sophomore at Continental High School and the daughter of Dwayne and Janelle Nienberg. Her artwork titled “Sunflower Dreams” is on display in the boardroom of the administrative office.

Mrs. Tracy Potts, Elementary Principal reported:
•Grandparents/Grandfriend Day: Thursday, November 21 and Friday, November 22
•Parent/Teacher Conferences are Monday, November 25 and Tuesday, November 26.
•Our Christmas for Kids campaign is underway. First Annual Kiss the Cow was a success. Students raised 527.47. Students are purchasing raffle tickets to raise money. Thank you to all the groups that donated baskets. The live drive at H & K is December 3 from 11 am – 1 pm

Mr. Tim Eding, JH/HS Principal reported:
•Congratulations to the E-Sports Fortnite Team of Colton Hiltner, Jaxson Slattman, Cooper Dockery, and Sawyer Prowant as well as their advisor Mr. Kosch for winning the E-Sports Ohio League Tournament last night!
•Congratulations to Jayden Reynolds for being selected as a member of the District 3 Honors Choir! The choir will be performing on Sunday, January 19th at 3:00 pm at the Niswonger Performing Arts Center in Van Wert.
•The 2nd Quarter Midterm is Friday. We will send home Progress Reports next week for students currently earning D’s and F’s.
•Reminder that Parent/Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Monday and Tuesday of next week. All parents are encouraged to come and visit with teachers to discuss the progress of their student(s). To sign up for conferences, please sign up through ParentSquare.
•The JH Students that qualified for the reward trip to Kalahari will be going on Wednesday, December 4th. 58 students qualified for the reward trip this year.
•The NHS Induction Ceremony will be on Friday, December 6th at 1:30 pm in the Auditorium.
•All-County Band & Choir Auditions will be on Saturday, December 7th at Kalida HS.
•The Band & Choir Winter Concert will be on Monday, December 9th at 7:00 pm in the Auditorium.
•1st Semester Exams will be on December 18 (even numbered periods) and December 19 (odd numbered periods).

The Board was updated on the District’s financial report including investments, cash reconciliation, and Board spending plan.

Personnel and Other Recommendations:
The Board:
•approved the November 2024 Putnam County Substitute Teacher list, provided by the Putnam County
ESC.
•approved the classified employees substitute pay:
It was recommended to adjust the sub pay to the 0-Step of the Negotiated Agreement on the classified pay scale. Sub pay will then adjust yearly as the negotiated agreement is adjusted but will always be a step-0.
•approved substitute teacher pay
It was recommended to adjust substitute teacher pay from $100 per day to $125 per day.
•approved a document providing clarification to all offices and employees as to what the district will and will not pay for or reimburse as necessary for employment. This will go into effect on the date of approval and will not be backdated for any employee.
•approved an increase in the Facility Rental Rate:
It was recommended to increase the facility rental rate from $75 to $100.
•approved the Coalition of Ohio Rural and Appalachian Schools service contract for year 2025.
•accepted the resignation of Varsity Girls Basketball Coach Josh Crossgrove, effective October 30, 2024.
•accepted the resignation of Junior Varsity Boys Basketball Coach Damon Schmidt, effective November 11, 2024.
•accepted the resignation of Elementary Cafeteria Cashier Domonique Hinkle. Her last day of employment will be November 22, 2024.
•approved the following Supplemental Contracts for the 2024-2025 school year, pending proper certification and background checks:

•approved Kaylynn Wellman as a temporary substitute teacher who does not hold a post-secondary degree, as is otherwise required pursuant to Ohio law and regulations, including Ohio Revised Code 3319.226 and 3319.30, Ohio Administrative Code Section 3301-23-44, and/or Board Policy 3120.04 -Employment of Substitutes, during the 2024-2025 school year. This is pending satisfactory background checks, if applicable, as well as a valid non-renewable temporary substitute teaching license issued by the Ohio Department of Education to serve as a substitute teacher.
•approved the employment of Tammy Makara as Cafeteria Cashier effective December 2, 20248 on a one-year limited contract as a cafeteria cashier at Step 0 ($14.50 per hour), 2 hours per day, 109 days per year (plus 4 holidays) for the remainder of the 2024-2025 school year.
•approved Holly Salisbury as a substitute cafeteria worker pending proper certification, license, and background checks:

POINTS OF INFORMATION
•There will be no school November 25 and 26. There will be a staff in-service meeting on Monday, November 25. Parent/teacher conferences will be held on Monday (3:00-7:00 p.m.) and Tuesday (10:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m.).
